Why does it always seem to me that Cueto gets the Sunday Special style team behind him?

This line up befuddles me. I know Dusty loves to get playing time for his bench but under no circumstances should Cairo and Valdez be in the starting line-up at the same time.

Bruce is having a hard time against LHP right now and you have the pitcher. I'm cool with Rolen having the day off but, no way Phillips being our main Lefty Killer, should be out against one of the 2 or 3 best LH Starters in the Senior Circuit.

Here's the Phils lineup:

1. Juan Pierre (L) LF

2. Kevin Frandsen (R) 3B

3. Chase Utley (L) 2B

4. Ryan Howard (L) 1B

5. Domonic Brown (L) RF

6. Laynce Nix (L) CF

7. Erik Kratz (R) C

8. Michael Martinez (S) SS

9. Cole Hamels (L) P

I have no problem resting some guys tonight. We have a pitcher who hopefully can keep us in it even with less offense, we've already got atleast a split this series. I want my best players playing this weekend when we can almost lock the division up going into the final month. If that means they sit tonight, then they sit.

Yes, and it's too bad this is Cueto's turn. I know it's a great pitching matchup but I would love Cueto and Latos to pitch the first two Cards games.

Phillips really needed the day off. He's played a ton lately. He struggled against the Cubs but has hit pretty well against the Phils. While Hamels is a lefty, Brandon needs the day before the Cards.

Maybe Cairo and Valdez will come through.

Phils resting Rollins.

They are now putting some dirt down to dry out the pitching mound.

This is obviously a diversionary tactic designed by the Phils, the umpires, MLB, and all of organized sports to disadvantage the Reds in some way.

Let's hope it doesn't work.

My understanding in the past was always that if you were active prior to August 31 at any point, you were eligible. But ever since I've seen the actual rule itself, I just don't read it that way. It seems you have to be active or on a DL as of August 31 at midnight. I'd like to see this confusion cleared up as all of the Reds' beat guys and announcers seem to be saying Mesoraco would be eligible. I just don't think that's the case.

But it wasn't luck how the inning ended. Cueto pitched pretty brilliantly to end that inning.

Went full to Howard and didn't give in to him. Walked him rather than tempt the big home run hitter.

Then got Dominic Brown, who is not Ryan Howard, to go fishing for a K.

Jose has good numbers but too many walks and lately homers.

Let's see him come through here and hold the Phils to one run.

Then let's see the other relievers help Johnny out.

5 innings....really needs to work on his pitch counts. His only weakness. Hopefully this will come in time.

It really hasn't been much of an issue this season IMO. This was a rare outing for Cueto. He lost his location for the 2nd & 3rd innings and that's what cost him.

i'm of the opinion that you bring in your closer, your "shut down" pitcher at the most crucial part of the game.

With that being said, it's hard to get him warmed up in time. You don't know ahead of time Cueto was going to get in trouble. We had our middle inning guy warming up just in case. You don't wear out Chapman's arm in warming up to "maybe" come in.

Chapman has his hands full pitching all the ninth innings. This team doesn't score huge numbers, often those ninths are close.

If the Reds don't have other guys who can handle the other leverage situations they need better relievers.

Ordinarily would agree, except the Phils have about 58 lefties in the lineup tonight. So I expect mostly Arredondo and Marshall.

If it gets to the ninth, Brox or Chappy.

Maybe Hoover if they need someone to strike out a righty hitter or if extras.
