Cueto in Day Games this year is 11-0 with a 1.89 ERA in 13 starts and 89 ip.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/28955/johnny-cueto

Cloud made his first MLB start the other day after a very impression season in the minors.
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120829&content_id=37535712&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb

The right-hander is 12-1 with a 2.35 ERA in 22 starts this season with Lehigh Valley, and 15-1 overall in the Minor Leagues this season. He has allowed 105 hits, 38 walks and struck out 93 in 142 innings. Cloyd does not have great stuff -- his fastball is in the 85- to 89-mph range -- but he has been good enough to be named the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher.

His only loss did come in a day game FWIW.

The loss came at the hands of the Louisville Bats, led by a grand slam by Neftali Soto.

With the AAA pitcher in his second start, I'd have loved seeing Gregarius get the start today. Would have been a good intro to the majors.

Formula for beating Reds in post season: Start right-handers against them, win series. (made easier by Dusty's insistence on playing Stubbs against them)

It's one thing to beat up on the D-backs, Cubs or Stros, but good teams actually score runs against their pitching.

Enough for today - time to get the labor part of Labor Day started. Neighbor's apple tree has dropped a bushel on my lawn and I'm going to be mowing tomorrow!

With luck, I'll miss an amazing come back!

Yes, I think he has four. I have two, but I need a spare because I'm blind without them.

Probably got them in bulk along with the wristbands and chewing sticks.

And the lineup cards with 1. Cozart 2. Stubbs printed on them as well.

For all the belly aching about Jay Bruce, the guy is going to end up with 30 + HR and 100 RBI or so. Not bad for a guy making $5 million.

Not sure Frazier coulda hit that one with a telephone pole.

One thing he seems unable to do is lay off close pitches. He likes to hack.....but he has been doing it very well, when he does.

Losing to basically a couple of average pitchers. Awesome.

I'm at the game...poor internet connection... what cueto did in the 5 th was inexcusable. 2 outs..give up a hit to #8,#9 then a 3 jack by rollins. Just a lasps in concentration. Not exactly elite caliber.Seriously? two dribblers through the middle by the minor league callup catcher and minor league callup pitcher, and a missed pitch due to a slick mound. Do you seriously think that Cueto just mentally checked out as a very likely explanation there? Is it maybe just possible that this is a random game full of unpredictable craziness that makes us sit there for hours day after day and wonder what's going to happen? Why does it always have to be "inexcusable, mental lapse, get their heads out of their butts?" Can't it just be that sometimes things happen in this game that are unexpected, even when you do the right thing, like get an 8 and 9 hitter to hit weak grounders?

Ok, sorry for the rant, this kind of conclusion just drives me ABSOLUTELY batty.

I don't know. In general, I'm against the idea that it's always the pitcher's fault but I do think Johnny coasted just a bit after those 2 outs in the 5th and it bit him.

I don't remember the LeRud hit, but Cloyd's wasn't a 'dribbler' nor was it particularly weak. It was as much a base hit up the middle as Bruce's was in the 9th. I just think if Johnny had really bored down, he could have gotten Cloyd out. But he didn't. Hey, it happens.

Back home now, took our daughter to the airport in Dayton after the game. I said at the game that I wish Cueto would have had them work on the mound before he did. I think it might have made a difference.

What is it about young pitchers that we make them look like the 2nd coming of Cy Young?
