Guess I haven't paid attention. When did they move Correia back into the rotation? Soon after his hissy fit and trade demands, or just recently when they cut bait on Bedard?

They give him a few starts when they skipped over McDonald to try and get him effective again, but yeah, it was after Bedard's release that Correia returned to the rotation full-time.

I think Leake is pitching for a spot on the playoff roster. I think it's safe to say he will not be in the top 4 unless there is an injury. 4 starters is all we need in the playoffs.

Could he be more effective as the long reliever? More so than Simon?

Leake who throws a straight 88-90mph fastball and a so-so change-up, He must hit his spots, he has too. If not, it's batting practice like the 1st inning. Glavine and Maddox made hall of fame careers buy living on the outside corner and nasty change-ups. They never threw it over the middle of the plate. They knew their stuff was not good enough.

Leake needs to pitch 6-7 innings because of what the bullpen had to do last night.

Even if he gets pounded tonight, he might have to take his medicine. With our big lead in the division bullpen rest is more important tonight.

Then we agree.

This fellow Navarro has hit pretty well for the Reds.

Teams often use only 11 pitchers in the playoffs. I could see the Reds going with three catchers so Navarro can be used as a pinch hitter.

If the Reds are going to have an extra position player, not sure I can think of a better idea than keeping Navarro to pinch hit and Mes to be the backup catcher.

Perhaps. But he's also got an 18% HR/FB rate this year. Maybe he's been a little 'lucky' tonight but he's been somewhat 'unlucky' for the course of the season.

Still, give up 3 runs in 7 innings, you've done your job.

His HR/FB rate each of the past two years has been between 13-14%. That's consistent with a league average of about 11%, with added points since he pitches in GASP.

Very few pitchers sustain a HR/FB rate over 15% for any length of time.

Time to remove Leake. Methinks he is a 6 inning pitcher most of the time.

For what it's worth, Leake's career OPS+ from pitches 76 to 100 is 107. The league average this year is 109. That suggests that Leake actually fares slightly better relative to his OPS than the average starting pitcher, when surpassing 76 pitches.

they gave him a hit but that should of been cought. It was 50/50 call.

It was worse than the play last night that ended the game which I thought was a hit because he would of had a hard time throwing out Ludwick that deep in the hole.

It should not have been "cought," as he had to make a diving stab just to try to get in front of the ball. It was deep in the hole and took an in-between hop as he was laying out for it. It wasn't 50/50. Very few shortstops in the league even get in front of that ball. Barmes actually has decent range. That's the only reason he's still playing these days.

I don't see why that's surprising. He brought in Ondrusek to face McCutchen, essentially, then turned it over to the lefty to face Jones/Alvarez. I was kind of expecting that, personally.

So if the Reds are able to get another save opportunity tomorrow, does it go to J.J. Hoover?

I'm not sure if the Reds will pitch Broxton three straight nights on top of five of six. Marshall would be in the same boat, although I could see him being more likely to get another appearance as he's more durable.
