Bruce swings at the first pitch, when the pitcher had been struggling to find the strike zone...:(

When someone is struggling to find the zone, you're more likely to see a dead-red fastball on the first pitch. Sometimes it's a great time to swing.

Tom Servo
09-28-2012, 07:49 PM
Homer and BP both ground out and nearly beat out the throws. Cozart singles again.

cam, not sure what you mean. Rolen led off the second, he didn't bat with anyone on.

Votto grounds into the shift to end the frame.

I bet Scott Rolen burns himself with hot wax at night as punishment for making an error.

Tom Servo
09-28-2012, 08:01 PM
Homer worked around a Rolen error to start the inning and gets the next three batters. He has 3 K's so far.

1-0 Redlegs after 3.

Frazier flied out
Bruce struck out
Rolen singled then throw out at second

Tom Servo

Tabata grounds out to pitcher
Alvarez K's (#6 for Homer)
Barmes K's (#7 for Homer)

And with those 5 scoreless innings, Homer Bailey has officially reached 200 IP in a season! Congrats Homer! :beerme:

Cueto, Latos, and Bailey are the first three Reds pitchers to throw 200 innings in the same season since Belcher, Swindell, and Rijo did it in 1992.

Tadasimha

I'm starting to come around to the idea of starting Homer on the road with Latos and leave Cueto for the home games - at least in the first round.

George Foster
09-28-2012, 08:32 PM
Bailey needs to start game 2 where ever they play...He's just plan filthy on the road.

I hope Dusty will see the light and change the rotation around. Pitch Cueto game 1 and Latos game 3.

Sub-2.50 ERA on the road this year as of right now. Not sure what more he needs to do for that to be an option. I agree with everyone that says they'd still take Latos or Cueto over Bailey on the road. But that's not even the issue. It's that you'd much rather have Cueto than Bailey pitching in Cincinnati. So let Homer pitch on the road and the Reds improve their odds.

That room where the "pink elephant" is residing is getting smaller and smaller. Huge concern.

Tom Servo
09-28-2012, 08:39 PM
I don't see the point in hand wringing over the offense. What does it really mean anyway? It's not like there's a law that says if they're raking at the end of the season it guarantees that they won't get shut out during the playoffs. Fact is the Reds took care of business and clinched the division, their performance right now isn't of great importance.

Yes...been preaching this for 2 weeks. Why not put your pitchers in the best position to succeed. Worry about the NLCS when you win the NLDS.

In fairness, they really haven't been playing at full strength for a few months. Votto was out. Cozart's been out. Ludwick's been out.

I don't think they've had their actual lineup out there all at once but maybe a few times in the past 2-3 months. Maybe it won't make a major difference but it could.

As I said the other day, they are not as high as their peaks or as low as their valleys. 3-4 runs should be enough to win most games in the playoffs with our pitching.

Me: You're about to witness baseball history
My Friend: What do you mean?
Me: I'll tell you after the game
My Friend: Alright what history?
Me: You just saw a no hitter, they're kinda rare.
My Friend: Oh cool.

I think I'm going to have to buy him season tickets (first time he's ever been at a baseball game)

This no no felt much better than the one the Phillies had against us two years ago:beerme:

Personally, I think you should buy him a subscription to the Sporting News...he seems kinda clueless. LOL. ;)

The only thing that makes is a LITTLE less exciting is that he had to at least pitch a shutout in order to win. :-)

Nothing, NO-THING, can make this less exciting.

As a sidenote, Homer ensured that the Pirates will NOT have a winning season in 2012 by handing them their 81st loss :)

Good point, the Reds have put some psychological hurts on a couple division rivals this week!

I have a long history with no-no's. let me explain. I Listened to all three of Jim Maloney's gems. I was present at Tom Terrific's no-no at Riverfront. I watched Browning's on TV. And then tonight. Gotta believe this is the second best. So happy for Homer, but nothing replaces being there live at the ballpark. I should have been there.

Also looks like the Reds willl be tied for the best record at the end of the night as the Cards are killing the Nationals 9-1

Strangely, after about the second or third inning, I had a pretty strong feeling it was going to happen. Usually it's not really worth thinking about until after 5-6 innings. But tonight, it just felt like a real possibility.

Damn I'm so upset right now. Just finished driving back home from my trip to Cincy and decided to peek in on the score. A no hitter?!!! We were going to go to this game as a break on our drive and finish the trip tomorrow, but finances are a little tight and since the game was meaningless we decided to skip it. Had to know something was going to happen :(

Way to go Homer!!! Boo me and my family.

Yes I will take all the credit for the no hitter. :p

I will try to remember to start the game thread the next time he starts. I believe that will be the last regular season game in St, Louis. This is also the first Reds no hitter for RedsZone! How about that!

What a great game! The thought ran through my mind after the 3rd inning that Homer has no hit stuff tonight. But I really didn't think he would do it. Didn't really start believing until after the 7th. I was just hoping the Reds could get a couple more runs and Homer could get the win. Great win and I said after yesterdays game that this team seems to have something special about it. I believe that even more after tonight.

I actually did DVR the game. I always DVR the Reds in case something special happens. So it did tonight. That will be a keeper. The only thing is that my DVD recorder won't let me record it. It's telling me its a copyrighted movie. So I will have to put it on a VHS tape.

I never thought it'd be Bailey. Volquez or Cueto maybe.....Arroyo, perhaps....

We have something really special going on here.

I got blasted with emails from the Reds about the no no after Attending my boys HS football game. So the drama was lost but watching it on DVR was still amazing!

I was at the local high school football game following on my phone. Once it got through 7 innings I told my wife it was time to go home!

I was able to see the last two innings.

What a night! What a season!

I ended up watching most of it on my Kindle because I was moving from the kitchen to the grill all night cooking dinner. Almost burned a few things because I couldn't tear my eyes away from the screen. What a fabulous game! Thanks for the PBP so I could relive it again today! ;) The amazing part to me is that is our #4 pitcher, not our ace. What a pitching staff... I can't wait to see what these guys do in the playoffs!

I was listening and doing laundry. There is a delay of feeds so in the ninth I kept listening but had my finger on the remote... When I heard Marty call the pop-up I immediately turned on the TV and saw it happen... :D
