This Reds team is kind of a new experience for me. Historically the best Reds teams have always been built on offense...sometimes bullpen and defense too. This team can make me feel pretty comfortable with a one or two run lead...4 runs? Fugeddaboudit!
No kidding. I remember watching a game earlier in the season where the Reds were trailing 2-1 or 3-1 in the 3rd or 4th inning and feeling nervous. I remember thinking, "Huh, this is odd, but I have to acknowledge the Reds may not come back."
Of course they did come back and tied it. And I remember thinking as soon as the game was tied that everything was fine and clearly the Reds were going to win the game.
On this August day I realized that if the Reds have a lead I pretty much expect them to win every time because it's a pretty reasonable expectation that the other team wont score any more runs. In fact if it's gotten to the 4th or 5th inning and it's tied, I pretty much expect the Reds to win because it's quite reasonable to expect that the Reds will be the next team to score, and it's already the fourth inning so the opponent has already scored as much as they are going to score.
I have absolutely never had this much confidence in a team. I don't know how to explain it.

Yes. It wasn't without merit, just struck me as a bit bizarre given Jeter's postseason reputation.

Isn't a pitch off the rubber?
I'm confused. maybe we're not talking about the same thing.
I saw him throw several in the bullpen area during the last half of the inning. But I know some giants pitchers warm up in the heated area behind the dugout (which have raised mounds and pitching rubbers). I don't know if Tim did there, but I certainly don't think Bochy would risk a pitcher by not giving him enough time to warm up. What are YOU talking about?
