ERA of infinity or indeterminate?

Jose Mijares allowed 3 runs last night and didn't get an out. Does that make his 2012 post-season ERA infinity or indeterminate because technically you'd be dividing by zero to calculate it. :laugh:

I've really never thought about that. I suppose it's indeterminate, but if they were showing his stats in the next appearance they would just show regular season stats anyway.

You're right though, cannot be infinity because dividing by zero is mathematically impossible.

I've always called it "infinity and am backed up by the box score from ESPN.com gives him an ERA of "INF"

Another interesting point, dividing by zero may be impossible, but so is the nature of infinity. There's a little thing called entropy which means everything has an ending.
