Now that Victorino and Gomes has signed with Boston... and Cody Ross peobably signing with Boston...

The Red Sox will be looking to move Jacoby Ellsbury who could come back healthy and put up 2011 numbers...

I think this is a shrewd move and Ellsbury could be had for a song...

IMHO... Trade for Ellsbury and Trade your Prospects (Not Billy Hamilton) plus a SS for Justin Upton and you win the NL Pennant.

Just trade some guys and prospects and whatever for Jacoby Ellsbury and Justin Upton! Come on Walt, it's so obvious! The NL is basically ours.

Number 1. Don't act like that.

Number 2. Denard Span got 1 prospect, and Ellsbury is a reclamation project with a higher salary. Will be a salary dump.

Number 3. Arizona is trading Justin Upton, and they want Andrelton Simmons ALONE from Atlanta... So if you offer Cozart, a GG Caliber SS with Pop and Cingrani along with Soto and some other prospects... This gets done...

Number 4. Get a Clue.

Adding Ellsbury and Upton to Votto, Phillips, Bruce and Fraizer would give the Reds one of the filthiest 1-6 in all of baseball. To snag both guys I would have to imagine Hamilton would be moved as Ellsbury would be the teams shortstop for the next 3-5 years.

Jacoby Ellsbury is the best fit of all the CF we could get IMO, when he's healthy he is a stud if we are going to part with pitching he's the guy to do it for.

Yea, thats a goof on my part meant CF.

While I understand the reluctance to part with Hamilton, if the Reds are targeting both Upton and Ellsbury in trades this offseason I would have to imagine Hamilton would be part of one of those deals. I don't envision a senario where we could get both those guys and not ship Hamilton because you know guys like Cueto, Latos, Phillips, Votto and Bruce aren't going to be involved.

Also with Ellsbury you have a guy who would be the teams CF for a good 3-5 years. Injuries are a concern, but if you make the moves, your banking on him being healthy. So even if you can keep Hamilton in aquiring Upton and Ellsbury, where does he play. As long as guys stay healthy you have Bruce/Ellsbury/Upton as your outfield for up to 5 years.

He's sort of injury prone, but even while playing hurt last year he didn't do that bad. Great fielder, can hit for average and power, quick, he's a great player. I'm not sure what the Red Sox are asking for though. How much would Walt be willing to part with to get him?

Ellsbury has 1 year before free agnecy and Upton has 3 years... Even though 5 years with that trio would be nice.

I was aware of Upton having 3 years left but did not know that Ellsbury only has one. That does change things some. But we also have Arroyo coming off the books the same year Ellsbury would become a FA, so we could use the Arroyo money on Ellsbury and with Upton in three years, if the budget is higher and we can fit him in great, if not than you can look to make some sort of deal at the deadline.

If you could get him for 1 solid player straight up, someone like Gregorius, Cingrani, Leake and a little filler I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Take it with a grain of salt, but Jones just said on WLW that he has a solid source who is claiming that the Reds are close to dealing for Ellsbury.

He seems pretty jacked up about it... Don't know if it has any legs, but he clearly is acting like it is for real

For those of us unlucky enough to have an AM radio at work, were any details shared? My eyebrow is raised.

Basically just said that he has a good source claiming that the Reds and Red Sox are close to a deal. To add to the speculation, he mentioned that Stubbs was supposed to be on their show but the Reds decided to have them interview Mesoraco instead, suggesting that maybe Stubbs is part of the deal.

It's pure speculation at this point, but normally you can tell when Jones is bs-ing about something and this time he seemed to be pretty sincere about it.

Thanks Jimbo. Interesting.

It would be great to get Ellsbury, obviously, but I can't see them wanting any part of Stubbs given the Victorino signing. Maybe Stubbs is a part of a different deal?

Totally unsubstantiated tweet (https://twitter.com/HarryFromCBus/status/276444945676652544)from a Reds fan:

Two media sources (700 & 1160) are reporting Stubbs and Corcino to Boston for Ellsbury. #Reds

That sounds like a RedsZone trade proposal. I imagine Boston would be asking for the world for Ellsbury, even with his contract status.

I don't think the Sox will get a huge haul for Ellsbury.

- He is a one year rental so only contending teams will be interested and most contending teams already have good CF. The list of teams that will be seriously interested in Ellsbury is very short.

- He is coming off of an injury plagued season in which his offensive numbers were off.

That being said, I think it will take more than Stubbs (who BOS doesnt need) and Corcino.

A borderline top 50 pitching prospect who will be ready this season is a nice haul for Ellsbury... Considering his last 3 years have looked like this
2010- injured
2011- Should have been the mvp
2012- injured and ineffective in his 300 at bats.

It is a fair deal both ways in my opinion. Ellsbury is exciting, but is far from a sure thing

One more thing I find kind of interesting- in 2000 with St. Louis Walt traded for a 29 year old left handed hitting CF who had flashed star potential in the past, coming off of an injury plagued season with one year left on his deal- sounds familiar to this eh?... And we all know how that worked out for the Cardinals...

True true. But let's be honest... there's just no conceivable way the Reds can retain Ellsbury past this season. If Vic can get 40 million, Ellsbury's going to land an insane amount. I'd entertain Leake and some young arms, but Bailey would be a mistake, especially considering our ability to extend him.

Agree, and I am really just looking at him as a one year rental. no way would I trade Homer for him. I am a huge Homer believer and would have to be overwhelmed by a sure thing to move him

"No, that's not our intent," Cherington said. "We're expecting Jacoby to have a really good year in 2013 and be a huge part of what we're doing."

Take that for what it's worth I guess.

That's why he signed Jonny Gomes and Shane Victorino and is still trying to sign Cody Ross...

More evidence to a Ellsbury Trade to the Reds:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/josh-hamilton-rumors-wednesday.html

GM Ben Cherington and manager John Farrell represented the Red Sox in their Monday night meeting with Hamilton, reports Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com.

Now... Why would the Red Sox be meeting with Josh Hamilton if Jacoby Elllsbury isn't getting traded?

Very Interesting... Very Exciting!

As a fan it sucks but at the same time it's great that our GM plays everything close to the vest. The only thing that makes me believe it will happen is last year no one heard anything on the Latos trade. There were two people who said it was all but completed with no media outlets saying anything about a trade and within 24 hours we have our young stud pitcher to go behind Cueto. That's the only thing that makes me believe it.

If this comes to fruition my pain from the 2012 post season might finally be alleviated.
