One day before his birthday. I really enjoy his music.

One of my faves. I remember learning the pieces from "Time Out" like "Take Five," the entirety of "Blue Rondo a la Turk" (a bear) and my favorite, "Strange Meadowlark." That band had such a cool vibe with the effortless breathy alto of Paul Desmond coupled with the rhythm section and Brubeck's virtuosity.

Semi-related, I always loved this line in Donald ***en's "New Frontier":

Have you got a steady boyfriend
Cause honey I've been watching you
I hear you're mad about Brubeck
I like you eyes I like him too
He's an artist a pioneer
We've got to have some music on the new frontier

I tried to see Brubeck at a convention in Cleveland a few years back and couldn't touch the room. Even recently he was still packing the place. A true innovator that will be missed.
