The @Reds have tickets available still for Opening Day, something Phil Castellini said he doesn't ever remember saying at this time of year. He says it's due to the date change after the MLB lockout delayed the start of the season.

I hope he's not dumb enough to actually believe that.

Even Mr. Red looks like he’s got other places he’d rather be.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
I love it. This is the best way to tell Bob to sell the team.
Remember, they only drew 1.5 million last year. I wonder how low it will go.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
He's in the running for the "Least Self Aware Dude" category for Southwest Ohio

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Funny thing about tradition, it goes away quickly once you stop treating it with reverence. Start serving Beefaroni for Thanksgiving dinner and see how many people show up.

Castellini is a clown. CTC, Castellini The Clown

This is hilarious, but also sucks because it shows how out of touch reds ownership is. If he is being genuine here, he has absolutely no idea how pissed the fanbase is right now.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Weird that he is surprised that fans are aligning their resources with payroll.

Phil Castellini: "So have a little bit of faith in what we're doing with your Cincinnati Reds."

Never been told "no" before, I'm assuming?

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
This organization has to have looked about half a mile to the west and seen those crowds, right? Surely they grasp the urgency. Right?
In a season wherein their dollar competition goes to the Super Bowl this organization cuts payroll.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
I mean, he's not wrong that the game would be sold out if it was on the original date. However, game #2 would have had 12,000 fans just the same.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
It is legitimately funny that he is trying to blame the date change.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
And guess what they’ll do when the Reds win 73 games and draw well below expectations?
-
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Sounds like we're warming up to some "blame the fans" nonsense.
"We'd add players but the fans aren't coming..."
"We had to trade Greene for a six pack of billy beer because the fans aren't coming..."
-
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
I think this team might be okay. I guess I always feel that way this time of year. But I certainly understand why the fans are going to require the team to show them something before the fans start showing up at the ballpark.

We elected the wrong Carter.

Rancid Nepotism + CEO of Marketing = it must be the fans' fault.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold

I agree nepotism is poison, but I gotta say, dick williams was a big time nepotism hire and Krall worked his way up through the organization over many years. Williams is significantly better than Krall.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Was the original opening day sold out?
Newsflash: Reds are idiots.

A line from the book I’m reading:
“That’s what the gods do, they spin threads of ruin through the fabric of our lives, all to make a song for generations to come”

I was referring to Phil, but sure...
Krall is just a yes man because his last name isn't Castellini, Bell, Williams, etc. If he doesn't toe the company line, there would actually be consequences.

Obviously I’ve disliked a majority of the moves and returns we’ve gotten, like you i’m starting to come around on the things they are doing in a way, and am finding ways to be optimistic about the season much like every year. However, between doing too little too late last season and us not having won a single playoff games in almost 10 years, I have no reason to have faith that they know what they are doing.

Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Maybe Phil is auditioning to be Putin's head of PR?
-
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Statements like these should always be in the form of, “We intend to earn your faith/trust/support/money.”
-
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Maybe if they slashed ticket prices to match the quality of the product, they'd sell out the games.

So what happens if this team is good?

Then they will have earned some trust in the process after 16 years of empty promises

Most of RZ forget that they ever disliked the moves.

I’d give it a 10-20% chance. If Hunter Green goes all Wayne Simpson and Pham’s bat replaces Castellanos and the bullpen finds a Nasty Boys trio, then ok. Lots of things have to go right.
