Votto vs LHP was a sight to behold during this era. IIRC, he had inverse splits a few years to the point that managers who brought in LHP to face him received some serious, deserved derision. Every "1" in the chart that sits above the median here is, in my heart, due solely to that beautiful man.

Who remembers Nick Solak? Yeah. This move likely means nothing.

If Texas wins the World Series Bubba Thompson gets a ring, so the Reds will have an active world champion on their roster. It's all about that clubhouse presence!

And they did. So idiotic to me that guys that had nothing to do with the outcome get a ring. Those should only be given out to the players who were on the WS roster.

The Astros gave out over 1,300 rings. They now give out classes of rings.

I’ve come around to the fact that guys don’t face good LHP that much coming thru the ranks.
So many rookies arrive with platoon concerns because they don’t fare well against LHP. But it seems that the higher pedigree guys learn on the job and shed the platoon label.

There was an old interview with Don Mattingly. I can not remember the exact details, but when he was a minor leaguer, I believe he played winter ball (it was some other league other than normal minor league ball).
He said, by coincidence, that season had a lot of left handed pitchers and it really helped him hone his skills against left handed pitching and sped up his development. So that supports what you are saying, there may be a shortage of quality LH pitching in the minors which leads to kids struggling vs LH pitching when they get to the bigs.
Obviously, this is not presented as proof, just a story that supports your post (Got to put the Redszone Disclaimer in)

This is exactly why the Reds need a couple of guys who have already shown they can hit against LHP. I'm pretty confident that CES and Marte will eventually kill lefty pitching. I don't know if they will in 2024 though. They need more guys who already have shown they can do it. We can't count on it clicking this year.

It would be interesting - though highly unlikely - if Reds had Senzel and Kyle Farmer as bench RHHs.
They’d cover all positions except CF. Reds don’t seem to want Senzel in CF anymore. Farmer would be emergency third catcher. Both have shown ability against lefty pitching.
Probably too expensive for Reds as backups.
While India is the superior player he isn’t defensively versatile and doesn’t feast on lefties so far. India might be more valuable as a trade piece for pitching.

I think this is exactly what they should do. They could probably have Farmer and Senzel combined for what they paid Wil Myers to put up a -0.8 WAR in 141 PAs last year. If that's too pricey for a team with guys making the minimum making up the bulk of the roster, then its hopeless IMO.

They might have trouble bringing Farmer back. He's likely to have other options.
Reds made Farmer the only catcher on their roster for awhile (I think 2 weeks or so?) He got a concussion was forced to stay in the game since the Reds had no other catchers and then got hit on the head again. Reds also cut Farmer loose and then forced him to sign a split contract early in his career. I think it's reasonable to assume that the Reds are probably Farmer's last choice, unless they dramatically overpay him. Also, I question whether Farmer would ever want to catch again after that concussion. IIRC, he has not caught since.. but obviously, maybe he has and I am not aware of it.. But at bare minimum, his catching playing time went dramatically down.
Now, I know this is a postseason discussion about moves that would be nice to make, I agree, Farmer or someone like him would be a good fit.. I'm just saying, even if the Reds were willing to pay market value, not sure Farmer wants to come back.. Much like Sonny.. it's kind of unlikely he wants to come back after he was traded while on a "hometown discount" contract.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
So ummm...it might not be a terrible idea to try and sign Will Smith for the bullpen.
The guy has won 3 straight World Series........

Like I said, it’s highly unlikely. But most players go to the highest bidder. They likely “want to come back” or not, depending on how much the offer is.
