I hope this question won't matter in the end, but will Chapman have the usual three option years available a la Wily Mo?

The MLB Network will probably broadcast the Reds press conference tomorrow afternoon. At least I hope they do. They showed the press conferences for Jason Bay, Jason Marquis, Matt Holliday, and others so they'll probably show Chapman's too.

Gotta agree. Creating excitement for this franchise is almost as needed as adding the talent itself. Walt surprised me very pleasantly with this move. Here's hoping he keeps it up.

Way to go, Walt.
I think more thanks goes to Cast, who opened up the billfold big time

It sure seems that way, maybe the most stunning deveolpment of the day.

I don't really see the risk here. Best case scenario, Chapman outperforms the contract in years 4-6. Worst case scenario, the Reds shift him to the closer role after Coco. At $6M, this is still a value and will be seen as such by contending clubs (if the Reds should fall out).
I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the Reds' investments in pitching. The hiring of Price was a key move and will have real impact moving forward. This is another move in that direction. My primary frustration with the previous regimes was the inconsistencies in the 'plan(s)'. But Walt is quietly going about his business of shoring up the major league roster and putting paid to the fanbase's (deserved) opinion that the club was going through the motions.

Some players signed to major league deals or go on the 40 man early for another reason wind up with 4 option years, but I don't know the exact rules.

I think it sounds like it may be five yrs/$25M with an optio to make it 6yrs/$30M with some of the money deferred, to be paid out over years 7-10 after the deal expires. (kinda like a mini-version of Junior's deal).

I'm seeing a lot of posters in this thread who I haven't seen posting around here in quite a while. This signing is bringing some excitement back to Reds baseball. Good. Redszone is already an awesome place but imagine how much more fun it would if the Reds were to turn things around and start winning again?

Nope.
I saw one SunDecker who didn't approve :)

First time I've been on Redszone this much in one day in well over a year. Greatly appreciate the work OBM did all day keeping this thread updated.
