A good point. Could a reason be that Frazier makes $7.5 M and Bruce $12 M? I am asking

Bruce is more expensive next season.
Re: The Jay Bruce Watch and Discussion
I'd keep Bruce-Frazier and hope Mesoraco returns to pre-injury numbers. The team has a chance to be pretty good on offense. Votto and Frazier are both top ten in the league in OPS and Bruce is an above average outfielder. Throw a full season of Suarez into the mix and you've got the makings of a good offensive lineup.

Frazier is literally more than twice the player Bruce is this year, and even more than that over the past two years. Frazier has been an MVP player these past two years. Even if you just look at this year, Bruce has been a tick above league average.
And he costs half as much.

Frazier: .279/.332/.577
Bruce: .255/.340/.481
Is Frazier having a better year? Sure, but I have a hard time believing the Reds replace Bruce's production if he's traded. It's not like Bruce is old either, he's 28 and finally seems to be turning the corner after that knee injury.

Outfielders are usually easier to find then 3rd basemen.

They'll have $16M to spend on a replacement next year, and that's on top of $30+M to spend elsewhere. They don't have to replace it all in RF either. If they get a solid 2 WAR player for RF next year, the Reds really just need to get more than 1 WAR back for him in a trade to win the trade. They should be able to get some very valuable prospects for him.
Plan A Keep Bruce: Spend $12M next years on around 3 WAR in RF.
Plan B Trade Bruce: Spend $16M over the next two years on around a 2 WAR player, and get some solid prospects for the future.
If the prospects aren't good, you pass. But there's a good chance you can get prospects good enough to make the deal.

It's obvious the Reds have to trade the bum!

My issue is that I essentially view a trade of Bruce as an outright punting of 2016. In which case, as much as I love Frazier, I question why you don't cash in on his success now considering he isn't likely to be here after 2017.
