67. I was listening to an old Casey Kasem Top 40 countdown earlier tonight and heard a song being played that I haven't heard in probably forty years, or more. I liked the song a lot back in the day but had forgotten about until tonight. So I thought I'd make a trivia question out of it and see if my RZ music junkies can name the song I heard , along with its singer/writer .
The song was #10 on the countdown on tonight's program but it ended up peaking at #7. To give you an idea of the year the song was on the charts I'll tell you that "Mandy" by Barry Manilow was the new #1 song on the countdown I listened to tonight.
About the singer/songwriter : He was a millionaire by the time he was 16 years old, and things only got better from there.
He wrote songs for the likes of Sinatra, Sir Tom Jones, Buddy Holly and Michael Jackson. He wrote Sir Tom's "She's a Lady," Buddy Holly's last single release "It Doesn't Matter Anymore, " and he wrote the theme for "The Tonight Show," starring Johnny Carson. By the way, he gave all of his royalties on the Buddy Holly song to Buddy's widow.
As far as the top 10 song I heard tonight , he sang it as a duet with a lady by the name of Odia Coates . This might help : OMW/OWM .
