Let's hope Hinds has figured out how to not strike out 40% of the time.

If you go by his last 200 PAs in AAA, it appears that he has. We'll see if it continues up here. I have hope that it will.
Re: A thread for Rece Hinds
The fact there is a thread on Hinds means he's already jinxed!!

Like the lineup, but Hinds gets to debut this year against a LHP. Not ideal, but hope he plays well today and in the future.

Yeah. I think working for the gas company might be his true calling.

I hear you but no coddling him. He needs to start 5x/week. No sitting him 'cause of which arm the starting pitcher uses

Baseball, other than the star players, is primarily a game of match-ups. Matching players up to their best advantage isn't coddling. In fact, it's basically the thing teams do to win.

I 100 percent agree! But just for reference, when he does rest occasionally, you might want to consider resting him against LHP.

I get this, but if you’re a RHH OF you should be expected to hit LHP at least at league-average, and Hinds is going to have do it if he expects to stick in the league.

Now is not the time to set up Hinds as a platoon player. I agree with Jim that we can take such things into account when deciding his rest days but today isn't that. With todays large pitching staffs, platoons are going to be increasingly rare. Playing matchups is more about the late innings than starting lineups

I was in know way suggesting Rece sit today or anytime in the near future. I’d prefer zero platoons, but I also realize that’s unrealistic. The analytics team would forbid that and probably for good reason.

I just want the Reds to do the thing that gives them the best chance to win that day's game. If that means Hinds sits vs LHP, he should sit. Letting him play, similar to Marte, is like writing off a line-up spot. They are already writing off 3B. At some point you need some production.
The way to avoid all of this is to have a better roster. The Reds don't.

I'm less concerned with who hits against LHP as I am that the best choice is in the line-up. If that means that Hinds doesn't develop this year, so be it. Maybe next year when hopefully the rest of the line-up is improved and they can afford to devote a spot to a lot of failure in the name of development. At this point, the line-up is only 3 or 4 deep before you get to the auto outs. They need to wring every bit of production out of it they can.
