Leake rolling, setting down eight in a row, before a two-out double by Barney. Renteria fields and throws. Inning over. 1-0.
Renteria with a base hit up the middle. Dempsey had set down seven in a row, striking out five. 4-6-3.
Pena with a leadoff single. 4-6-3. Soriano works a walk. Byrd with an infield single to second. Soto bounces to third. 1-0. Reds.
Both pitchers in control. Bruce K. Alonso singles on a popup somehow. Stubbs forces Alonso. Francisco pops out. 4 full in the books. 1-0. Good guys.
Mesoraco called for another catcher's interference. Second time in a week. You rarely ever see that called. Dempsey on first. Castro flies to Stubbs. Barney lines to Bruce for the second out. Nice play Phillips. Inning over.
Mesoraco with a four-pitch walk. A short pop to Pena who lets the ball drop and forces Mesoraco at second. DatDude walks. Two on with just one out. Leake scores on Renteria's third hit of the night. 2-0.
Renteria making a strong push to be brought back.
Votto can break this game wide open here. Dempsey would rather not face Votto and walks him. Bases Code Red. 6-3 twin-killing. Surprised? Not me.
Jay Bruce, the rally killer.
Pena with a leadoff double. A surprise hop gets the ball by Votto. LaHair with a looping single puts runners on the corners. Ground ball and the Reds trade two outs for a run. Oops 2-1.
Frustrating as it is...the pitching is the main problem. The "proof" is out there for all to see:
7th in ML in runs scored. 5th in ML in HR. 12th in ML in BA. Have left too many on base this year but well, so has Boston.
23rd in ML in ERA. 25th in ML in walks. 23rd in Earned Runs.
A bat would be nice. But 'nuff said.
2-1 heading in to the bottom of the sixth. Leake with a nice job of limiting the damage.
