Wow. that's BIG. Thom could go all National with Fox and Big Ten work a limited schedule. I wonder if his wife Polly wants to go back to Arizona.
Marty said to Paul Daughterty that Tommy Thrall is coming up from Pensecola and could be " the guy"

The Reds had some guy from one of their affiliates fill in last summer but I can't remember who it was, but I wondered whether he was doing an audition.
I'm hoping they do a wide search and look to become a bit younger on the broadcast side. Marty was 31 when he started, as noted in the news article WOY posted. With the exception of LeCure (who is now 34), everyone else is north of 50 - with Chris Welsh being my age. I don't know whether he's a grandfather or not.

They had the Dayton guy come up for an inning or a game late in the season.

Jim Day is 54. I 'm stunned.

[correcting word since Chip caught my error - I love being a grandpa]
Wow, that's a good way to think of it
I was a 13 year old grade schooler during Marty's first year, and I'm now a 58 year old grandfather as well.
It's the end of an era, for sure. I've loved Marty and I've been out of sorts with Marty, but that's how family is.
My favorite childhood memories with my late dad were sitting out in the yard on a soft summer night, listening to Marty and Joe call another Reds win.

Re: Marty Brennaman: 2019 is my final year
Whomever they choose, I hope they don't feel the need to talk incessantly. As my man Chris "Mad Dog" Russo says, "Let the game breath."
I enjoy the background noise and listening to the sounds of the game for a couple pitches in a row. Marty had a knack for that, IMO.

If Marty does stay in town, his living specter is going to haunt his replacement. The Reds win a game and this new guy says something different that "And this one belongs to the Reds" people are going to whine and moan about how Marty was s much better than New Guy. With social media, there's a lot more opportunity for the people to complain - even if it's just to complain for complaining's sake.

Re: Marty Brennaman: 2019 is my final year
Marty & Joe were the broadcasters of my youth -- the days where I collected baseball cards, went to autograph shows, read every baseball book I could get, played organized little league, and played backyard ball with my friends. They were the voices of baseball to me when I fell in love with the game. Just as it seemed strange to no longer hear Joe, it will equally feel odd to not hear Marty. For me, it doesn't get any better than Marty & Joe.

Re: Marty Brennaman: 2019 is my final year
If Marty leaves, how will I know who to hate on the Reds?

LOL Chris Russo saying not to talk incessantly is like telling the ocean not to get someone wet. He's the one guy I can't stand on MLB, mostly because he thinks "bar yell" is a normal voice volume for a TV show.

Chris Russo endorses silence?
Could have fooled me

The irony is I was watching MLB TV this morning and in a segment on the Hall of Fame chances of someone, he went into a loud rant that I just chose to switch from.

I will miss him. Heard his first broadcast on the school bus announcing Hank Aaron’s homerun etc. Should be an interesting hot stove league tonight on 700wlw at 6pm est.

Unless it was Amanda who gave him the tap on the shoulder.

Watching his Instagram account, him and Amanda seem happy. Nothing like a good woman to keep a man in line.
Good for him and good for them.

Re: Marty Brennaman: 2019 is my final year
A sad day, actually. Like many others, Marty is a presence from my childhood. I have so many fond memories of hanging out with my grandfather (who passed in 2003) listening to Marty and Joe. That's where my fandom of the Reds was born.
I haven't always agreed with Marty's quips or assessments of various players through the years, but I don't need to be in complete agreement with him to greatly appreciate what he's done for myself and countless other Reds fans. At the end of the day, there aren't too many things better than sitting on the back deck on a pleasant summer evening drinking a beer and listening to Marty and the Reds.
I look forward to hearing him for one final season.

Re: Marty Brennaman: 2019 is my final year
Fans who get emotional and triggered over Thom or even Marty are hilarious
This is one of the least successful pro franchises in all of sports over the last 25 years
Miserable moves, tiresome seasons and bad, bad, bad baseball
Maybe it’s the Reds fault the announcers aren’t more cheery and positive
Or. You could get a Geoff Hobson to just tell
Us how great we are at baseball

Complete fail, dude
For many of us, no matter what we think now of Marty (and who mentioned Thom?), it represents the passing of our childhood and adolescence.
I’ll say this, my Reds friend, from 1974 until 1981, 7 years of Marty’s announcing, the Reds were one of the very best teams in baseball.
Color me flipping hilarious

Dan Hoard grew up professionally as a baseball announcer. Just sayin'.

I’m not talking about the fans who know Marty as a reds staple and hate to see the legacy end
I’m talking about the endless amount of fans who say Marty was too synical and that thom is even more unbearable. Read through here; It took 2 minutes to turn into a Brennaman ***** fest.
I have great memories of Marty. Thom is also good. Not their fault the players and product stink

The product mostly stinks for the last 27 years or so...But, since Marty started in 1974, the Reds have three world series rings to their credit. In those 44 years (wow, I'm old!) how many MLB franchises have more than 3 world series titles to their name? Maybe 3 teams? I'd be thrilled if I knew the Reds would win 3 more titles in the next 44 years....
I will miss Marty after he is gone. Thom I can't stand....

Thom is not good, in fact he sucks.
I'm a Reds fan for 43 years, I think I have right to say what I feel

Ive been a fan for 29 years
The product on the field is the real thing that sucks
Complaining about the announcers is just whiny. Thom has been the lead for the NFL, CBB, BCS, Fox baseball, etc.
His resume speaks for itself. I bet if the reds were better over the last decade, you’d love him

He has great voice, he does football well, he does not do baseball well at all.
He tries to create drama out of anything that piques his interest (IE talking points) he is backwards thinking about style of play, he is ignorant of history before his time. the product is not the problem, I have spent years listening to bad teams announcers and they don't hate the game as much as he does
He is what Creed was to Grunge.

No offense, but you sound like the one creating drama/being dramatic.
Lot of hate for an announcer. Ignorant to baseball history before his time? Wow, yeah his 1940's and 50's baseball knowledge sure is valueable to the 2018 audience.
backwards thinking about style of play? let me guess, maybe he said Votto should swing at more pitches 4 years ago (That really riles up the Thom lynchmob)
How dare an announcer covering a slow moving sport, 3 hours long, with TALKING POINTS!
