Their manager was asked about it. He said that they were worried about injuries if he had to throw 40+ pitches in one inning. In other words they’re treating him like Waterford Crystal

Tough inning but Reds get out of it unscathed.
There seems to be ample animus on this board towards Trevor Bauer, so this might be enjoyed by some.

What are the rules on going Wire-Wire these days?
Look at the AL East. The Yankees were in first place after Wed night. Are the Red Sox even eligible to have a chance?
Real baseball is the best baseball, the regular season is ice cream or chocolate, spring training is ice milk or carob
My favorite moment of yesterday was this Bo Bichette at bat that ended in a K

Milwaukee's in first place again...
On the other hand Sal Stewart is tied for the MLB lead in doubles. Sal had a great opening day. So did Abbott.
Benson should have started in LF. We needed that lefty vs righty matchup. I might have even started Lowe at DH to get that
Benson against Crochet for multiple at bats? No thanks. Benson looked terrible against a RHP, it would have been worse...
If Meyers' strong suit is verses LHPs, then I would have played him over Marte.
Cubs, Nico Hoerner Agree To Extension
The Cubs and infielder Nico Hoerner have agreed to an extension, reports Michael Cerami of Bleacher Nation. It’s a six-year deal, per Jesse Rogers of ESPN. Hoerner was slated for free agency after this year, with 2026 being the final season of his previous extension. The financial aspects of this new agreement have not yet been publicly reported.

The Orioles and right-hander Shane Baz are finalizing a five-year, $68MM extension, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Cornerstone Baseball Group client was previously slated to reach free agency after the 2028 season and had agreed to a $3.5MM salary for 2026. Passan says in a follow-up tweet the deal buys out his three arb years and two free agent years, so it appears this will overwrite his 2026 salary in some way.
Chase DeLauter went 3 for 5 with 2 HRs in his regular season MLB debut for Cleveland. I was hoping the Reds would get him in the 2022 draft but Cleveland snagged him two picks before the Reds’ turn. He’s had a slew of injuries to start his career so I hope he can stay on the field.

Reports Indicate Pirates Have Benched Slugger Oneil Cruz.
https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/pi...170506226.htmlQuote:
On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates scored seven runs but delivered an embarrassing defensive performance. The outing unraveled so badly that the team pulled its starting pitcher before he could even finish the first inning.
Now, the Pirates have made a tough and surprising decision ahead of Saturday’s Game 2 against the New York Mets. Reports indicate they have benched slugger Oneil Cruz.
It remains unclear whether this move will last, but Cruz has been one of the Pirates’ most dangerous offensive weapons. The decision is puzzling, especially since the team has remained committed to playing him in center field—a position he is still learning.
Cruz previously thrived as a shortstop. Last season, the Pirates moved him to center field midyear to address a glaring roster need.
Dodger fans are already counting down their magic number. Los Angeles is 3-0, while the rest of the division is a combined 1-10.
All-Star Pitcher Scorches His Former Team For ‘Slap In The Face’ Hire

Mike LaCoss, a former MLB All-Star, is not a fan of first-year San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello - or the team’s president and CEO Larry Baer
LaCoss, who pitched for the Giants from 1986-91 and was an All-Star with the Cincinnati Reds in 1979, called into a San Francisco radio station to say the hiring of the former Tennessee coach who had no MLB experience was a “slap in the face” hire.
“The hiring of the college guy, don’t you think that’s kind of a slap in the face to all of the minor league managers in professional baseball and all of the bench coaches in Major League Baseball that think about becoming a major league manager?”
