Re: Reds General Discussion 2026, Part 2
I would take Paul Hoseholder. Duane Walker and Cesar Cedeno.

This. He looks a bit AAAA to me, but the only way to find out is play him. And he has been hot through spring and the beginning of AAA, so there isn't any excuse. There is plenty of data on Benson at this point, so they need to learn who Hinds really is.
And the benchmark is pretty low, so no harm. He should get a month of everyday play, ideally in CF, and then decide what to do next.
Re: Reds General Discussion 2026, Part 2
The Reds aren’t required to be guided by Marte’s short term successes. They are allowed to look at the whole picture. He didn’t hit down the stretch last season. He hasn’t hit a lick this season. He swings at 47% of pitches out of the strike zone. He apparently didn’t endear himself during ST (I’ve read).
That’a enough. Like it or not.
In the end, it’s up to the player to perform. He has a chance to get back on track at AAA. If he does, I’m sure he’ll be back.

We don't throw out the abnormally low BABIPs, just high ones.

We throw out things that look like an outlier. BABIP helps us figure that out.

With Hinds here I'd call up Bleday and send down Myers.

Edit - Nats have the worst pitching in MLB so guessing arms would be the target.
CJ Abrams is too much of a prospect cost for too much risk. JJ Abrams however has had a number of big hits over the year, plays with flare, could add veteran direction in the locker room, and give the Reds a New Hope.

You would? Myers has hit lefties way better than Hinds. And Bleday has been cooling off a bit in AAA

JJ just hit a 3 run homer yesterday and has a .922 OPS in 14 games. I’d bring him up and send Benson down, not Myers.

JJ is 2 for his last 10 and 8 for his last 30. Not quite as hot as Hinds. But yea, I might call him up for Benson as well.

Yes. He's a scrub. I'd call up Bleday and platoon him in RF with Steer. Hinds in CF every day. Friedl in LF. I'd keep that same lineup until Memorial Day and reevaluate.
Benson can stay for now as a bench LH bat. I'd also bench Hayes for Suarez and get Lowe more playing time as well.

In limited time Myers is hitting .300 with a .333 OBP. Thats like an all star on this squad. He’s nothing spectacular, but he also plays good defense. If Bleday gets called up, I’d assume Benson would get sent down. His numbers this year and the last two years would warrant that, IMO.

Reds minor leaguer suffers injury, pitching depth takes another hit
Quote:
The Cincinnati Reds have one of the deepest pitching staffs in all of baseball this year, but that depth has been tested early.
On Tuesday, Reds reporter Charlie Goldsmith reported that the Reds opted to place prospect pitcher Julian Aguiar on the 7-day injured list at the Triple-A level.
Aguiar is seen as one of the next men up for the Reds if they suffer more injuries at the big league level.
This year, Aguiar has struggled tremendously through 10 2/3 innings and three starts. He's surrendered 12 hits, 11 earned runs, and four home runs while walking eight hitters in his first professional action since undergoing Tommy John surgery.

It's like watching the 70s Reds on astro-turf. I am an anxious person, have a hard time relaxing, sitting down, and especially sleeping at night. Watching the Reds has solved that problem. :p
