Rock was the bastard child at the Grammies throughout the 60’s and 70’s. And the Grammies are well-known for their odd choices at times.

Yep. I was gonna mention the Taste of Honey one at a later date. Seems like the performer who had one huge record got the grammy nod back in the day over the much better artist.

At the time, there was a controversy if Boston was a real band. Tom Scholz was a studio wizard and created the whole Boston sound. I saw them at the UD arena. It was a good show but I remember saying “they sound just like their record”.

91. More than 45 musicians performed on "We Are the World," the charity single recorded immediately after the AMA awards show in January of 1985. The super group , named USA for Africa , dedicated their time and talents on this record for famine relief in Ethiopia. Of all of the people who sang on the record, only two of them were not American. One of the two , a Canadian, got the invite to participate when he happened to walk into the wrong office at the right time. Despite knowing he wasn't exactly the right fit, he was glad to participate. The other guy was from Ireland. Can you name these two non-American contributors to "We Are the World" ?

It's amazing. Delp's live vocals are right on par with the studio recordings. He was incredible. Scholz was a MIT grad. An engineering genius. Every song on that debut album is lightning!!! Tom worked on those songs that ended up on that debut album for over five years in his basement, turned studio.

Roy mentioned the controversy back in the day about whether BOSTON was a real band or just a studio creation. They were SO good and on point in their shows that some felt like it couldn't be the real thing. Delp and Scholz were that damn good.

My guilty pleasure back in the day was The Carpenters. I was a card-carrying hippie rock guy but the Carpenters were great. Just pure shimmering glowing gorgeous pop tunes. I never told any of my friends but I had their greatest hits album in my collection.

And I still listen to ABBA Gold. Another just gorgeous pop vocals group.
