If they’re going to become a 90 win team that’s what they need.
We’ve seen moves “not that impressive” for too long.
Don’t disagree. But they will also need to make moves that are improvements, even if they are not “not that impressive.” Signing either Miley or Wacha would be an improvement, imo.

It's buying mismatched-size uncomfortable loafers from the clearance section at Shoe Carnival because even though you can afford to pay for a pair of Allen Edmonds, you don't want to.

What is Allen Edmonds' ground ball rate?

Signing Miley and Wacha would be like buying a good pair of sneakers that you need. That wouldn’t rule out buying more clothes that you also need.

20% higher than Johnston & Murphy and 35% better than Florsheim's.

I think folks are going to be very disappointed by the starter acquisition this offseason.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
If I ever get selected to throw the opening pitch at GABP, I'm toeing the rubber in a brand-new pair of loafers from Allen Edmonds.

Nah. Too slippery. Use golf oxfords instead. Cleat it up!
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
For the record, I’m on board with sending a couple of prospects for a guy like Cease. But that seems fairly unlikely.

The Reds seem to be following the plan that many other mid market teams have followed to success.
Build the foundation of the team through the development in the farm system while using free agency and trades to add on missing pieces on the margins. This requires having faith in the development of the team’s prospects.
Following this plan worked better than expected last year. I don’t see the Reds deviating from this plan this offseason or anytime soon. Sorry, but they aren’t going to get a big name free agent pitcher. They are going to trust the development of the young pitchers they currently have, and add “not that impressive” names like Miley and Wacha,
Most of this board thinks this is a poor strategy. Maybe it is, but many of these same protesters last off season were saying that if the Reds trusted their prospects, the team would lose 100+ games.

A Mat Latos type deal would stick to the plan while improving the current. The question is there a Latos type deal to be had.

Which mid-market teams have been successful with a miniscule budget?
How many World Series have those teams won?

Agree. I think that is where the India trade rumors are coming from. India plus a couple of top prospects can get a young, top of the rotation starter with many years of control.

When the Reds wanted to win previously they went out and got players like Bauer, Gray, Castellanos. They know you can’t be totally dependent on your farm for very good players. Now that the payroll has shrunk to a low number, I expect them to look for very good players from outside the org, either in trades or free agency.

That was the old plan that they abandoned because it really didn’t work.
