I certainly wasn't talking about now or this year, but I believe Votto will right the ship and sometim in the next couple of years someone might make an offer.

I don't think that's crazy at all.
Honestly, I feel that if his contract was less of an obstacle, even for the wealthier teams, he would have been moved already (last offseason or last year's deadline). I don't think it's crazy to think that, if he rebounds to normal "Votto-esque" form, he wouldn't at least be shopped for a higher level prospect package (assuming the Reds kicked in some money).
I mean, in a few years, do we really expect a 34-35 year old 1B to be the cornerstone of our "rebuild"?

I hear ya, but I still think Votto's skills will age well. You could do worse than build a young lineup around that sort of OBP and work ethic. Not to mention he's pretty darn funny.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Bruce had a similiar stretch last year after his cold April so do not get fooled by him.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
From May 16 to July 17 last year Jay hit 306/.384/.543 for .927 ops
11.4% BB 18.5% K rate
So I do not believe he has changed.

He also had 74 EBH's in 2013 which is 13th best in over 130 seasons of Reds baseball so let's assume he's already fooled us all

Seems fairly consistent. A few cool streaks, a few warm ones too.
I think hitting .200 with a .260 OBP .400 slg from April 8 to May 8th is kind of cold for me
May 9 to now .340 ba .388 obp .723 slg seems kind of hot
That too me is not consistent
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
2013 is not today Bruce that is prime Bruce.
Bruce has history of hot and cold and it is the same today with a player that has aged. 29 is not 26 especially after injuries.

Fantastic talent.
Sounds like someone we could use against PIT. ;)

I wonder if just turning and throwing at Hurdle would end things once and for all
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Probably doesn't mean anything, but I wonder if with the addition of Benson, and having Zimmer that the Indians would be willing to send us Frazier in some kind of deal involving Bruce. :D

Was thinking the exact same thing. Along with Bruce, I'd offer Cleveland their choice of anyone in Pensacola, Daytona or Dayton, with the exception of Garrett. I'd also give them their choice of sending us Zimmer or Frazier.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
A few days ago, I was watching Drennan Live (a Cleveland-centric sports talk show) on Sportstime Ohio (FSOhio's sister network in NE Ohio), and host Bruce Drennan was talking to Dave Wallace, the manager of Cleveland's AA affiliate in Akron. Suffice it to say that the Tribe are extremely high on both Zimmer and Frazier, and neither of them are going anywhere. (Except possibly on the fast track up I-77 from Akron to Cleveland.)
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
I wouldn't even mind Tyler Naquin either.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Trade. A few years ago, everyone wanted to trade Votto. Now, it's Bruce, Homer, Phillips, and Cozart. When will be satisfied? Apparently, RedsZone is never satisfied. When players are cheap, you keep them until they are no longer cheap and then you move them. Occasionally, you give a long term deal to a player who is special and then the fanbase gripes forever when they don't hit .400 and walk a lot and hit home runs and visit the sick children in the hospital. Just seems strange when anyone is successful, the trade talk starts. When they get the long term contract, everyone is looking for that great prospect that is going to save us. WE all worry about how much money the franchise is spending. It's not my money, so I don't care. The result is what we have now. Failure. Humor me. I really just want to win and winning without the players mentioned is near to impossible.
