I hope Krall is looking at starters no older than 30 either through trade or FA. That's not to say a Gray or Nola would be a bad addition, but I think there's a very limited number of FA starters this year who would really move the needle for the Reds--and the competition is going to be extraordinary. Every time I look at MLBTR another team seems to be announcing it's looking for one or more starting pitchers.

Reds weren’t reckless last time but they didn’t have all this low cost talent.
The current plan is off to a good start, the payroll is low, the team has a good pipeline, and adding a couple of difference-making vets should boost the team.
I agree with all this. It was just a point of contention (and probably a pedantic one) that the same people somehow know better this time (especially before they spend a dime on difference making vets). They are certainly in a better spot to spend $ this time than before

You’re mixing points or something dude. What reckless, empty spending did we do with this 2010-2014 core?
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
I think signing Wacha would be a very smart move. In Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft, Abbott, Williamson and Phillips, they've got six good young starters, including three lefties.
In additon to being a solid starter, Wacha would provide a veteran influence. I don't think they need a second veteran starter, and Miley turns 37 today.
(accidentally posted this in the trade talks thread)

There isn’t much difference in the base of talent between the 2010-2013 teams and the current team. They weren’t reckless back then and were successful.

Who's this years Greg Vaughn (33 in 99)? If they want to maximize the current roster then they need to get an upgrade of someone in the outfield, use Steer as the 4 day a week at various positions.
Added this for the pitchers
Thats why I posted this list from Spoctrack in another thread.
Lucas Giolito (I know he's had a wretched Stretch)
Tyler Mahle (2-3 year reestablish deal; Yes I know 1 year will be TJ)
Lucas Severino (see what our Pitching Guru Johnson can do to get him back to pre 2019)
Bradley Keller
I believe all are under 30. Keller probably would require a through medical review for thoracic outlet syndrome.

The whole conversation started around the 2019-2020 spending. Obviously KCs point doesn’t make sense if you apply it inexplicably to the 2012 team lol

Kc61 was comparing the two in the post I commented on,
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
Thoughts on Alec Manoah? Could pitching coach whisperer Johnson return him to his 22 levels? What would it take to get him - he's got 3 years of control.

Nice project, I wonder how far he's fallen in the eyes of Toronto. He'd definately be a guy to consider in a deal for India or if they want Senzel/Barrero plus a lotto ticket.

I didn’t compare current team to 2010-13 team.
I was comparing the signing of good FAs today with the acquisitions of Bauer, Gray, Castellanos. I said Reds today have a better base of young talent than those teams a few years ago. With Reds’ low payroll they are in better position to boost the team with meaningful acquisitions.
Look at my posts 374, 379.

Wacha is meh. Dream bigger.

Thanks for the correction. My bad.

The Jays are not going to let Manoah go anywhere:
