"Jesus duuuude"
15 year olds are consenting to have sex all the time. Whether it's with a 13, 15, 18, 25, or 34 year old it's not the same as that person she's having sex with forcing himself on her. Not even close. Can she be taken advantage of because she's young and naive? Yes. That's probably the case in many instances, particularly with someone with a massive age difference. But again, it's not the same as forcible rape.
Brb, going to go wash my eyes out with bleach.

Ok, stings a little bit, but I'm ok. Let me continue:
Jesus dude.
They are both rape. A 10 year old could consent to fighting in a cage match with a 30 year old. It's still assaulting a minor.

One reason why it was never reported, is because those who would have done the reporting, weren't exactly squeaky clean during that period themselves, and don't want that Pandora's box opened. Just ask anyone who was associated with Reds over the past 30 years, if they have any "Mons" stories to tell...

A 10 year old isn't going to do that. A 15 or 16 year old will to consent to sex though, and they do it every day. I'm not arguing the decency of it. I'm arguing the difference of what I see as rape, which is non consensual sex.

Yes, a 15 or 16 year old will consent to sex with a 34 year old adult at times...and that is why it is the responsibility of the 34 year old adult to not have sex with them. And that is why it is a crime, because they are expected to not take advantage of a child.

Wowzer.
I apologize for calling you a feminist. I forgot there's a certain mentality that would consider that an insult.

No it didn't really. Pete chose to sleep with a girl who I'm sure he knew was a minor. I'm sure he wasn't forced into it. But splitting hairs between a 15 and 16 year old being any kind of real difference is silly.

I didn't say it was an insult. I'm just not seeing how it is feminism, I think it's more along the lines of common sense and decency.

I think it does. You have to draw a bright line somewhere on this.

And splitting hairs between 14 and 15 is silly. And so is 13 and 14. And 12 and 13. Where do you draw the line? The law decided it was between 15 and 16.

Totally agree. Again, it's not what Pete or any other 34 year old should be doing behind closed doors obviously. It's just not what I see when someone throws out "rape." That's a loaded word and accusation.

That's why it's messed up. Yeah it's to some degree an "arbitrary" cutoff, but as mentioned earlier mostly to protect teenagers from being labeled as sex offenders for having sex with another teenager. Grown ass men shouldn't be trying to sleep with the youngest legally possible girl in the first place, don't try to toe right up to the limit and you won't have these problems.

Pete Rose sleeping with another woman while he's married makes him a bad guy.
Sleeping with a minor makes him a scumbag.
Sleeping with a 15 year old, technically makes him a criminal.
So it's worth noting, sure.

Obviously you don't have kids. The difference between 12 and 13 to 15 and 16 is massive. Physically, mentally, everything. 15 to 16? Not so much.
If you want to draw an arbitrary line, just make it 18 like most everything else.

Aside from making a large percentage of high school senior/college freshman boys felons, this seems fine to me.

I guess my point is, the difference between each individual "next age" is almost meaningless. But you've got to draw the line somewhere. And for whatever the reason, it was drawn at 16 a long time ago. So, yeah, don't go there, adults.

Well that would be something they'd have to consider before they took the plunge. Might be better off. Plus when I was 17-18, I had no idea what I was doing anyway. I thought I did, but believe me, I didn't. The girls didn't either.

Don't go there. Not arguing that at all. The word rape though brings a connotation in most people's minds of forcible sex. It's a loaded accusation and shouldn't be used in any other context.

Except, yanno, statutory rape is also rape. As is having sex with a girl who is too intoxicated to consent. As is literally any other situation where the woman (or man) can't consent for whatever the reason.

That's what it means in YOUR mind.
It's not loaded at all. The law is very defined about what constitutes rape. That you disagree with that doesn't change a thing.
-
Re: Pete Rose Committed Statutory Rape (according to court docs)
It's forcible because the girl cannot consent. Even if she says yes, it's the same as if she says no, legally. And that's rape.
-

Oh yeah? Ever had sex with a drunk woman? Maybe a girlfriend? You'd call that rape would you? Let's say you break up with her a month later for whatever reason and to get back at you she claims you raped her when she had too much to drink? And bingo! You're suddenly labeled a rapist for the rest of your life. Would you see yourself as a "rapist?"
Yeah. You're a moron.

Yeah. You're a moron.
28 years old, had plenty of sex in my life (congrats to myself on the sex, btw) and amazingly somehow no girl has ever accused me of rape.
Amazing.
I see you're the type of dude who work of the assumption that women are a bunch of dirty liars when for every 1,000 rapes, only 310 are reported to the police, 57 lead to arrest, and an entire 7 end in felony convictions.
You're really showing your ass here.

Yeah I'm not arguing the legality of it. But again, that's not what people think of when they hear or see the term "rape" or "rapist." What they think of is some brute forcing himself on some girl. It has a violent connotation when the reality (not the legality) is that in these circumstances it isn't violent. It's a huge difference, and that's why it shouldn't be thrown around as casually as it is.

Who thinks that? When I think of a rapist what I picture is some frat boy taking advantage of some drunk teenager at a party.
Also, sex with somebody who is NOT consenting is a violent crime, no matter how badly you don't want it to be.

When I hear the term rapist i think of a person taking advantage of a person sexually through either physical or mental force. A 40 year old attractive female teacher having sex with a consenting 14 year old boy is rape, for example. She is using her position of authority and mental capacity to take advantage of a child. Rape.
