Flexible like an anvil.
(Yes, I caught the sarcasm).

Probably John Smiley or Dave Parker was bigger.
By the time this kid finishes though, he may be bigger. :) Let's hope.

I'm thinking this is the reason Ramon Hernandez was brought back.

As for Milton he was if anything confirmed by the banana phone crew as a sure thing and alluded to by others as being a waste, a reach, a ginormous mistake.
Which crew is most people on Redszone?
The later or the former?

I've see the Reds send reps to the annual Hispanic festival in Carthage and it would be another way to add to a base, introducing more folks to the Reds and perhaps snare some folks who aren't as familiar with baseball from other parts of Latin America.
Agreed. You gotta figure the Reds are one of the most popular teams in Latin America right now. They have well known Latin players in the majors in Johnny Cueto, Edinson Volquez, and Francisco Cordero. A few others approaching the majors in Juan Francisco, Yonder Alonso, Enerio Del Rosario, and other potential future stars such as Yorman Rodriguez, Juan Duran, Humberto Valor, Neftali Soto, Henry Rodriguez, and Daniel Corcino. And I can't forget to mention previous Latin stars like Davey Concepcion, Tony Perez, Mario Soto, Jose Rijo, and Cesar Geronimo. The Reds are booming in Latin America right now. Let's hope it continues. It's a great way for a smaller market team like the Reds to get an edge.

Cueto, Volquez also weigh in on that choice as well I believe.

MLB.com had a nice little breakdown of his mechanics, pointing out that his control problems stem from a timing issue where his arm is trailing the rest of the body. His demeanor actually reminds me a fair bit of Cueto, anxious and aggressive -- something which tends to get exacerbated in exciting situations. I think getting Soto or some other Spanish speaking coach in there who can really build a personal relationship and work with him 1-on-1 will make all of the difference.
Very interesting observation Sava, regarding Herandez. I think you could make that case with Cueto and Volquez, but certainly the general point is well taken. As the the organization looks to bring in more Latin American talent, having the right personnel and structures in place to support their transition is absolutely crucial.

Comments from Chapman press conference

Aroldis Chapman came out in a Reds tie and it wasn’t long before the cameras were popping as he held his No. 54 jersey with Reds GM Walt Jocketty.
As far as when he’ll be on the mound at Great American Ball Park, Jocketty said he wants to get Chapman to start working with catcher Ramon Hernandez and hopes things move quickly.
Jocketty said that hopefully Chapman is a Top 5 starters. If not, he’ll start in the minors and hopefully be in the rotation in the near future.
Chapman said his first expectations are to learn about the way of living here in the U.S. and to get use to the new culture of life. He saw snow for the first time on Sunday. Living in Cuba, he didn’t get to follow MLB. He didn’t have the internet for that matter.
Jocketty said the team really got involved in a significant way to sign Chapman just before Christmas. The Reds stayed in touch the whole time and negotiations really started heating up over the last 4 to 5 days.
“You have to make bold moves from time to time,” Jocketty said.
Chapman’s agent said the Reds were persistent all the way through. It was also a good fit for Chapman because his manger, catcher, pitching coach and 10 out of the 40-man roster all speak Spanish. So the transition will be much easier.
John Erardi asked Chapman the final question: “Do you know who Tony Perez is?”
Chapman answered, “No.”
You can bet by the time he finishes his career in Cincinnati, he will.

You could argue that Chapman's season in 2009, should he become the fifth starter, will mirror Cueto's season two years ago. Probably a few more walks for the Cuban, but he'll also probably be harder to hit. (LH and better stuff-- gulp)
You'd also be able to limit his innings a bit better, and, come late August or early September, as Volquez comes back, he could be used as a late-inning reliever to limit them even more.
Not that I'm necessarily in favor of that.
