Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Well this is new and different. I am use to Bruce discussions hijacking threads. Here is a Votto discussion hijacking a bruce thread. Irony

You really want to go down swinging on the notion that Votto is an .800 OPS man? I'd keep those thoughts in your head with your other voices.

Did I say a 810 OPS is "stellar"? I was asking if you, after a few days of reflection, still think Votto is "cooked"?
I'm also asking if you would care to give a prediction on where you think he winds up. I'm really not sure where cooked" lies on the player spectrum.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
I don't know how you can be a fan of the Reds but not a fan of Votto.

Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Also despite continuing to be red hot at the plate, and some of the very nice catches he's made of late, his defensive value combines to make him worth exactly 0 WAR so far this season, supposedly.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
i'm still learning about the defensive metrics, so forgive the question: Does Jay get penalized on UZR if Hamilton makes a play on a ball that is in Jay's "zone"?

Yes and no.
He doesn't get it counted as a play not made that should have been. So he gets 0 out of 0 for it. But, had he made it, he would have gotten 1 out of 1, which would have improved his overall zone rating because it would then be a higher percentage of plays made. How many of those happen per season? I honestly don't know. Is it 10? Is it 30?
The value of the plays also comes into play. Was the play "out of the zone"? If so, it's worth significantly more than a play made "in the zone".
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Why do the Cardinals pretty consistently ignore defense entirely in favor of offense, and win way more than the Reds?

Which opens a can of worms...would Jay have caught it? How do we know?

I just really wanted to make a joke at Panda's expense.

I do wonder how capable a Reds lineup like this could be...
C (whoever)
1B Votto
2B Phillips/Suarez (when Phillips leaves)
SS Peraza
3B Duvall
LF Winker
CF Hamilton
RF Bruce/Schebler (if Bruce is not retained)
...could be.
If Senzel develops quickly, I wonder even if he could play some 2B for awhile like the Cards did with Matt Carpenter. Make Suarez a supersub in that scenario, I think he's even more valuable.
Just spitballing

Wrong numbers, it's all about the traditional stats
Votto 2 HR and 6 RBI
Bruce 5 HR and 18 RBI
