Yeah buddy I’m way ahead of you!!!!!
I think on their end there’s an element of “some fans are always complaining about something; you just have to have a thick skin.” They were, yes, rattled that it took hold so strongly. To them, they started turning it around in 2018, the pandemic hit in 2020, now they have an exciting young team. “Celebrate it,” Phil says. But to many fans, it’s five winning seasons in 16 years, and they haven’t really done anything yet.

That second interview he gave seemed like that's what was supposed to happen. I imagine Rob Butcher grabbed that guy and told him to give Phil a chance to clarify, and Phil decided to just dive in again.

It's already getting some national attention. He could dig his grave even more if he did that.

Sarcasm aside, let's reiterate the biggest takeaway here: An owner of a team was asked what he wanted to say to fans who are frustrated, and the message he wanted to convey to fans was that he wishes he could make more money. And for seemingly no reason other than to be cruel, he threw in the whole "maybe we should move" nonsense that some owners like to dangle on occasion.
These are paying customers Castellini is speaking to, the overwhelming majority of whom have exponentially less financial clout than a family able to own and operate a Major League Baseball team. It's just unbelievably tone deaf.

If he had just said the second paragraph, I think it would have been okay-ish...?
"We're no more pleased with the results than the fans. I'm not sitting here saying anybody should be happy, I'm not sitting here polishing any trophies in the office right now. And, that's what we're here to do. But, the bottom line is I do think we've had to shift the discipline, we've tried a lot of things that didn't work. They came this close to working and didn't, nobody's gotta tell me they didn't work. So, I think we've learned from those things. Trust me, [general manager] Nick [Krall] is a guy on a mission."
That isn't awful. But the thing about moving... gosh.

Prime example of why you shouldn’t publicly open your mouth when you’re mad.

Even hinting at the possibility of the Reds moving is embarrassing. MLB would never allow it.
This idea that Cincinnatians owning the Reds is somehow something the fan base cares about is annoying as hell. We don't care who owns the team, just that they're committed to winning and have a plan in place to increase the odds of success. And yes, there would be heavy interest in the Reds if they were for sale. Pretending otherwise is stupid.
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you’re stupid than to open your mouth and prove them right.

I can't imagine a worse PR blunder that could have been made than these idiotic comments by Phil. And on opening day, no less.
All Reds fans are asking is for ownership to do better. And if not, sell the team to someone that will. We're not being unreasonable. And the response to unsatisfied Reds fans, the paying customers of the organization, is to taunt them and threaten them? Classless and idiotic.
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
One team has moved in the last 50 years, the Reds aren't going anywhere, nobody anywhere should buy that crap.
The Reds just called their fans idiots and told them to kiss off on opening day.
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
Penurious buttheads doesn't quite cover it now.
How about penurious, moronic buttheads?
Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
This is what you get when you put the owner’s kid, an entitled trust fund brat, in a position of power.
These people do not like being questioned by the masses. I say keep turning the heat up.
