Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Best hitter on the roster in 2016
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Votto is the best hitter far and away. Bruce is having some great results right now though.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
How does Bob trade an .895 guy off this roster and still claim to be in good faith with the fans who show up to watch today's game and not the prospects of some imagined future?

It was exactly this thinking a year ago with Frazier and Chapman that caused the Reds to wait and not get full value for them.

There are several questions I'd raise about this response. One: perhaps that kind of thinking was relevant last year as well (and I'm not sure how much the average fan cares about some hypothetical fair value to be realized in a purely hypothetical future). Two: I'm not sure yet that we have a reasonable way to assess the value of what we received in the Frazier/Chapman trades. Third: the concept of "fair value" assumes an efficient market and it's not at all clear to me that major league trading involves anything like an efficient or rational market.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
I was a big proponent of trading Jay for Wheeler. Never mind.

Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Do you pick up the Bruce option to gain leverage?
It is a legitimate bargaining tool this year.
"We don't have to trade him"

I agree with you here, but didn't you advocate trading Votto in another thread today?

Wasn't advocating, was suggesting as a theoretical possibility. I do think Votto raises this same question, but all the trading discussion has been about Bruce, not Votto.

No.
If you pick up the option now, you may eliminate some smaller markets from the trade table.
Some teams may only want Jay as a rental.
But Reds should certainly tell teams Reds haven't ruled out picking up option, and would do so rather than take a weak package for him.

It's because Votto has full trade protection and a contract that will keep him here when the Reds expect to contend
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Why can't you just keep him if he's going to hit near 40 and knock in over 100 ?
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
As of right now Jay Bruce's slash line is .282/333/588 OPS .921
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Im behind .....when did posting the slash line with the OPS as last number happen? I'm getting old and i apologize to a couple of guys i corrected.
Re: Royals interested in Bruce?
Bruce had 26 HRs, 35 doubles, and 4 triples last year for 65 XBHs in 649 PAs in 2015.
Bruce has 16 HRs, 15 doubles, and 6 triples for 37 XBHs in 245 PAs in 2016.
Thank goodness for iffy medical records on that one minor league guy. Give us top talent for Bruce or go to hell!
