Not sure I'd deal Fraley and Phillips for this deal.
The Reds have money and question marks. They need depth as insurance against some of those question marks failing, especially in the rotation. They need to sign a pitcher and not trade for one.

Just a 3 year deal because he's 34. Any other FA starter who fills their need is going to take over 5 years, which makes it unlikely for the Reds to sign one.
Not confident at all if the Reds go into 2024 without adding a starter who is better than what they have. Gray's age and the likely shorter contract made him seem like the best match. The Reds need to add one without creating a bunch of other holes or they will likely finish below .500 in 2024.

I was thinking that's alot to give, why not Elroy or Robert's included of they add Another piece ??
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
I’d not be trading Fraley unless they add a big left handed bat. The team is very right handed.

Um the Outfield has Fraley, Benson and Friedl all leftys.. how are they very right-handed in the Outfield? They just let go Senzel who was righthanded

The only lefties on offense are Fraley, Friedl, Benson, and Elly. They need to add another left hand bat even if they don't trade Fraley.

They better add a right handed bat, as they weren't good against lefties and just let their lefty crusher Senzel go.

According to a source, the Reds were pursuing Sonny Gray and were close before he went to the Cardinals on a reported 3-year, $75 million deal.
Reds also have interest in Tyler Glasnow of the Rays. He's owed $25M in '24. TB is not wanting to rebuild and seeks MLB-ready starter.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
What MLB ready starter could the Reds even send to the Rays for Glasnow?

I am not saying they should do this, but the Reds have cheap guys who have been at or near the MLB level and who have shown enough promise for TB to ask for.

Lodolo + lower tier prospect

To me, that tweet from Sheldon sounds like Krall called him and said "We are interested in Glasnow, but TB wants an MLB ready starter, and we don't want to part with one"

Out of those maybe 1 is MLB ready, though. I dunno if the Rays would want any of those guys. Williamson is probably most likely I guess. Lodolo has so many injury concerns. Phillips barely pitched last year at MLB ready, I consider him a prospect. Abbott showed some warts. Idk. I would gladly trade Lodolo or Phillips for Glasnow.

Friedl just came off a career year. I like what he did, but he’s not the power threat Fraley is. Benson was nice, has a great eye, but had a high BABIP too. I’d keep Fraley around unless blown away.

I wouldn't trade Phillips for him at all. Phillips is actually one of the arms in the system that could become a serious force in the pen or maybe the rotation.
