Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
We are in the part of the off-season where the Reds leak that they were "in" on players that sign elsewhere. Excellent!

If there are tires to be kicked, Krall will be there with his steel toes

And where some nasty fans refuse to view and take it in as a ‘spiritual’ signing of said players by the Reds.

Considering Glasnow is getting paid $25M this year, will be a free agent next year, and all his injuries, if the Rays want a MLB ready starting pitcher back for him, they should be expecting someone like Carson Spiers.

If they go through with a Glasnow deal, structured as you describe…well, I’d just have to fart.

Exactly, though they will "like what we have" in the end anyways, so no worries.

The front office is really good at horseshoes and hand grenades.

Honestly, they are short a good OF even with Fraley. Neither Fraley nor Benson are guys that should/can play everyday, and Friedl requires judicious time off (even if last year wasn't flukish).
At the very least, they need a really solid platoon guy...but if competing is in fact the goal (we'll see) they could probably use a starting caliber OF and a platoon guy for Fraley or Benson in the other spot and one of them moves to a heavily used 4th OF role.

All of them pitched at the MLB level with varying degrees of success and future projection left. None of these guys fit as a one-for-one deal option but I doubt that a Glasnow deal would be as direct as that for any team.

Here is a comment Lance McAlister (700wlw) made last week before Sonny Gray was signed.
Quote:
For Reds fans feeling anxious about other teams making offseason moves, keep in mind what John Wooden once said....“Never mistake activity for achievement.” If the Cardinals want guys like Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson, god bless 'em.

'I wanted to be a Cardinal': Gray to St. Louis on 3-yr deal
Quote:
"Going into this thing, I wanted to be a Cardinal," said Gray. "That started over a year ago. It's a place, every time I've come here as a visitor, I've looked at the stadium and said, 'Wow, this place is incredible.'
"I’ve seen the fans continue to show up and support this team. You talk around the league and talk to guys who’ve been all over the place and everybody raves about St. Louis, the Cardinals, the fans, how the fans are hard on you, how the fans expect you to win, how they expect greatness. As a player, as a competitor, that’s something that you want."
"Where I am in my career, I want to win," said Gray. "Walking in here this morning, you see the history. It's there. The feel is there. It's a baseball town and a baseball city, a place I'm thrilled to be able to come be a part of it."
Because Gray received and turned down a qualifying offer from the Twins earlier this month and his deal exceeds $50 million, Minnesota will receive a compensatory 2024 Draft pick between the first round and Competitive Balance Round A.
St. Louis, meanwhile, will lose its second-highest 2024 Draft pick, as well as $500,000 from its international bonus pool for the upcoming signing period, because it did not exceed the Competitive Balance Tax threshold in 2023 and did not receive revenue sharing support.

i did a trade sim between the Reds and White Sox, Reds get: Dylan Cease, Eloy Jimenez and Garrett Crochet for Jonathan India, Jake Fraley, Sal Stewart and Lyon Richardson. This was called a Fair Trade (Reds get 42.30 Value and Sox get 42.70)

I've been low key hoping the Reds would trade for Max Kepler, and his strong defensive reputation. Let Fraley or Benson DH.
