I’m not saying the rumor is untrue. But it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Obviously, this sort of thing happens. Someone is on a team they don't really wanna be on, and they start daydreaming about being with another organization.
But they don't normally admit it haha

Let's be honest, there are 75 million reasons he's going to St. Louis and none of them are the city/team/culture

I disagree. I think Gray could have gotten more years and overall dollars elsewhere. St. Louis is close to home (so is Cincinnati) and that is why he was thinking about them in particular while he was still on the Twins.

Agree. While I’m not too disappointed about Gray, for reasons I’ve already posted, his move to the Cards suggests either or both of the following:
1. Reds didn’t want to give him the third guaranteed year.
2. Gray saw Cards as a better bet to be a deep playoff team in next three years.
I’d guess either or both of these.
Neither is very reassuring, especially the latter, if true. Gray does know Reds franchise well, I’m sure he has friends there, DJ, etc. Yet he chose the Cards’ deal.

It depends on the price. One year of Glasnow as a stopgap is fine as long as you aren’t surrendering a premium prospect. When you start giving pieces that you expect to be a big part of your future, control becomes much more of an issue. The Reds would likely also be getting a compensatory pick out of Glasnow via the QO barring catastrophic injury, so that factors in as well.

The Cubs and Reds are among the teams active in trade conversations for Cleveland’s Shane Bieber and Tampa Bay’s Tyler Glasnow, sources confirm.

If you could get Glasnow for a package of say India and Richardson, I'd be fine getting him. I would not deal any of Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft, Abbott, Williamson or Phillips in a deal for Glasnow. I also would not take the $12 Million commitment to Manual Margot, which has been rumored as a requirement to add Glasnow. Margot is no better than Stuart Fairchild at this point, and IMO, shouldn't even make the team if the Reds were to get him in the package.
If the deal is for Glasnow and Margot, the Reds should trade only India (and probably should ask for a portion of Margot's salary to be covered by TB) and nothing more of any value. If Tampa Bay wants some fringe minor leaguers added, say (Sam Benshotter or Michael Byrne just as an example) they can have those guys, but nobody in the top 30 or 40 prospect list.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
Bieber is an interesting name to me. True TOR starter if healthy and coming off an injury year and a dramatically low K rate I’m assuming he doesn’t take an A prospect to get him as a rental? About half the salary of a Glasnow so it should give the reds some extra flexibility to grab a bullpen piece or even another MOR starter.

The extended window will still be in place in 2025 when Phillips, Petty, and Lowder getting a year of development under their belts in 2024 with Glasnow in the Reds rotation for 2024. It's not hard to imagine one or two of those guys being ready to step into the Reds rotation in early 2025. Glasnow makes perfect sense as long as the player price to acquire him isn't too high. If the Reds were to go after an arm with comparable upside to his in the FA market it would cost way more than 1 year and 25 million.
Again I'm approaching this deal as a borderline salary dump by Tampa, and in no way would give up Arroyo or Petty to get Glasnow at 25 million.

Trevor Bauer Wants to Sign With Cincinnati Reds: 'What's Not to Like?'
Quote:
Would the Reds be willing to reunite with the former Cy Young Award winner?
The Reds are looking to add depth to their starting rotation and Trevor Bauer is hoping to make it back to the Major Leagues. Cincinnati was reportedly "close" to signing Sonny Gray before he agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract with the Cardinals.
That led one Reds fan to ask Bauer if he'd want to return to the Queen City.
"Yeah of course," Bauer tweeted. "Loved playing in Cinci and never got to celebrate playoffs with the fans, still have a lot of friends there, got on really well with the staff and front office, and the team is good and has real winning chances, what’s not to like?"

Bieber @ $12.5M
Lugo @ $13-14M AAV
Reynaldo Lopez or Jordan Hicks @ $9-10M AAV
Wouldn’t mind an off season something like that assuming they aren’t surrendering a top 5 prospect for Bieber.
