Although it's a fair point to ask.. Would Bell have let Lynn pitch 180+ innings? I'm not so sure he would have.
Reminds me of the Yogi Berra quote:
The food is terrible at this restaurant, but the portions are huge!

I doubt the majority of Redszone would have been happy about signing either of those guys but I'm sure you wouldn't have approved of those signings. :)

This is apples and oranges, as you know.
If Reds sign Wacha or Miley, he would be their main SP acquisition. The apt Cards comp would be Sonny Gray.

Thanks for making my point.

Your point is that Reds’ main course is marginally tastier than the Cards appetizer. Even if true, it doesn’t say much for a Reds meal.

My only point was that this board would not be too happy with the Reds signing Lynn or Gibson. They would be just as unhappy as Cardinal fans were with those signings by the Cardinals.

You can believe whatever you want, whatever makes you feel better.

Really?
If the Reds signed the guy who gave up the most HRs in MLB this year an the guy who gave up the most hits in the NL would created a surge in Redszone optimism?
Ouch... that doesn't bode well for the collective baseball acumen of the RZ hive-mind

Most people rallied behind just about every trade / move since Milton. Heck, even Milton had roughly 1/2 the people approve.
I was one of the dumb ones that thought he might be able to pitch 500 ball, because I wanted to believe the team would get better.
It's part of the fan mindset, that's the point.
People were generally ok with Cessa and Weaver in the rotation, at least until the season started.
I will concede that Lynn would get criticized by some, but in general, there's enough homers here that pretty much every move is looked through rosy colored glasses by most people. IIRC, there were some folks that were talking about getting Lynn at the summer deadline, but I don't want to dig through old posts to prove or disprove it..

Considering that the Reds were a couple of decent Lance Lynn starts short of a postseason berth, I’d take him. He takes the ball, rarely injured, the Reds need SP depth more than virtually any MLB roster on earth. I’d be fine adding him. Yeah.

Health is a tool, Lynn's last 300 innings are B A D (worst of his career) and he's a 36 year old guy who weighs about 285, so betting on health will be a bit precarious moving forward

Lynn was worse than Weaver last year. He would not have helped the Reds win more games last year.

Ironically, had the Reds held on to Weaver and given him his usual four inning stints, they might have preserved the pen long enough to win a couple more games. Instead of doing that bullpen-as-starter routine they did for like 5-6 games.
Maybe he implodes next season, but if any team can squeeze out whatever is left in his arm it’s the Cardinals.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
Ultimately, unless you think the Reds have the starters with lengthy clean bills of health enough to say, “We can’t promise you any innings” then the Reds are beggars that can’t be overly choosy.
They could change that calculus by spending and demoting guys to the minors, but we know that’s going to happen. So they’ll push guys like Phillips into the MLB rotation, ready or not.

The Cardinals are known for squeezing quality innings out of washed up pitchers?
