Anyway, when he was talking to his friend about his breakup with this chick, the friend asked him a question, and that question inspired the title of the song. The song and its "questionable" title climbed up the charts, all the way to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977. The band's name sounds rather innocuous and is , in fact, quite Yacht Rockish. But names can be deceiving. Band members have admitted that , yeah, there might might have been a little LSD tripping going on out around Frisco Bay when the band got its name.

I did not. I had been to a Led Zeppelin show there a couple years previous and it was a mob scene like The Who concert only nobody died. I was a battle-tested concert goer and could handle myself but it scared the piss out of me. I got caught up in a mosh pit outside the arena and alternately got squashed and pushed in a mass of humanity. And then got crushed trying to get through the doors. It was just out of control. I had friends that asked me if I wanted to go but I had declined. At that time I was more into clubs and punk/new wave.

His breakthrough song was written for his little sister, who had broken up with her boyfriend. RIP Chris Rea.

I remember The Road to Hell. Fool If You Think It’s Over is a great song too. I had an English friend who was a big Chris Rea fan.

Close. He actually had a #1 seven years prior to that one. CITW(1997) was his SECOND solo #1 in the UK.

"Working on It" is pretty cool ,too. Rea could sing the tender love song or a harder rock song. I like gravelly or raspy-voiced singers, both men and women ( Rea, Rod Stewart, Joplin, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Carnes, etc...)

I saw Squeeze in concert in ‘93 or ‘94 during their Some Fantastic Place tour, featuring Paul Carrack who had briefly returned to the band. That was a great show (and album).

Saw Carrack when he was with Ace in Indianapolis. They were the opener for Yes who I was there to see. 1975-1976-ish? I was pretty stoned (as was the usual) but I thought Carrack had a good voice.

Were you folks music video watchers back in the early days of MTV? I had them on all the time while I was piddling around the house back in the early 80's. One that I remember being on heavy rotation back in those early days of music videos featured a glam metal band, whose roots date all the way back to Hollywood in 1973 and a band called Firedome. The band's signature song stormed up the charts in 1984, in large part, due to the band's cheeky and humorous video, which featured legendary comedian, Milton Berle. I bet I saw this video five or six times a day when this song came out.

How did "Uncle Milty" end up playing a cross-dressing husband and wife in a glam metal band's video? Well, he really was being a good Uncle Milty. He was the uncle of the band's manager, Marshall Berle. Milton did the video as a favor to his nephew. It was weird, at first, seeing Milton Berle in a hard rock video, but the more I thought about it, it made perfect sense and made the video very memorable.

Berle was a hoot. He was up for anything he thought would be funny. I think he was the first man I ever saw on TV dressed like a woman. Despite being an older comedian, he always seemed to be very hip , which younger audiences appreciated. I doubt if this band would be remembered by very many people had it not been for this video and this massive hit song.
