Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
Why not just sign Lucas Giolito to a two year deal with an opt out to get a veteran starter? He will be cheaper than trading and giving up prospects and has no injury history and gives you that veteran that will give you innings? You can make the argument his performance after he was traded from the White Sox but if you look at his prior years, he was pretty damn reliable.

Giolito gave up 41 HR last year. I don't see him wanting to sign a short term deal to pitch in GABP and reenter FA coming off a 50 HR season.

And Seattle might need to settle for five years of a defensively challenged down-order bat in Spencer Steer.
Again, probably not a match.

Bryce Miller, at age 25, was a 2 win starter in 130 innings as a rookie.
If he was a Reds prospect you would likely write a 3 page novel on how great he is.

Probably not, as I've already explained why, while he might fit like a glove in Seattle, he'd likely struggle in Cincinnati.
But hey, nice try there.

I definitely agree but I feel like the jury is still out on Abbott and it makes me a little more leery about dealing him. I love his attitude and LHP stuff, but I also fell in love with Tony Cingrani once for the same reasons so the heart can be deceiving.

Yeah, but Cingrani was a one-trick pony. Never seemed like a "real" pitcher to me (for lack of a better word). Abbott is a pitcher through-and-through. I really like him. Not saying he's gonna be a star. But I would venture to guess he will be a very solid MOR starter for years to come. And as we all know, those are very valuable.

Abbott seems more like Travis Wood than Tony Cingrani to me.

Yeah I agree, that's why I'd like to keep him.

Yeah that's a better comp but I never really felt attached to T. Wood so I was more than fine with him being in the Latos deal.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
India, Abbott, Benson and Richardson for Glasnow, Arozarena and Taylor Walls.
Is that enough? Too much? My sense is that it's a little light and the Reds need to add more to get it done. Would subbing Lodolo for Abbott be enough?

Wood wasn't in the Latos deal. He was in the Sean Marshall deal. Backfired because Marshal couldn't stay healthy.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
I'm not crazy about giving up Benson. He'll still be 25 to start the 2024 season and a 12% BB rate and 90 mph average exit velo is a combo I'd like to keep. He mashed RHP last year and even if the BAbip backs up a little I think there's more power in the tank to off set that. Fraley I'm ok with dealing, but Benson might have another gear as he gets into his late 20's with that power and eye combo.

MLB Trade Values says it’s a major overpay by the Reds.

If you start with Abbott, you only need to add one of the other guys, or just take Abbott out and make it a 3-3 deal.

Inree reds ally don’t want to see Fraley or Benson go. I have no idea why so many people are ok with Benson going. He has the potential to be the best of the young bats. Find a RH platoon that can play RF and that’s that.
Re: Reds Trade And Free Agent Rumours 2023-24 Offseason
That's two additions that helps the Pitching Staff.
Still want to see that Starting Pitcher we can pencil in for 160+ innings as a Top-3 Starter on the team to relieve a whole lot of pressure off of Greene, Abbott, Lodolo and Ashcraft.

I guess if I'm trying to win, I'd rather have Fraley. He's a better defender and a bigger offensive threat IMO. I'm not crazy about giving up Benson, Abbott or Richardson, but Arozarena and Glasgow are exactly what they need to become a serious contender.
I'd start with India and Richardson, but TB wouldn't even take the call for those two.
