Re: Phil Castellini surprised that Opening Day tickets still unsold
One thing I would add to this "are you watching" discussion is that I can't remember a stretch of games this long with such weird start times. Late, early, really late, weekday day games...it's been something "strange" nearly every game. They're about to play their 13th game and really only the Sunday Atlanta game has been at the "normal" start times around 7 on weekdays and 1 on Sunday. I'm as down and weary as the next person but the truth is, I'd be struggling to watch games at these times if they were 11-1.

Really hoping GABP is full of Cardinals fans this weekend.

From C. Trent today: the Castellini curse:
The Reds have now lost nine straight games — call it the Castellini Curse — since starting the season on a promising note with a split against the world champion Braves in Atlanta, a turnabout that coincided with Reds president Phil Castellini scoffing at those fans who dared question management’s decisions.
Castellini put a black cloud over the home opener, one that followed the team to normally sunny Southern California.
And the roster responded in kind, losing nine in a row and mustering little offense over that stretch.
“It feels like it’s been like Groundhog Day over the last couple of weeks,” first baseman Joey Votto said. “It’s been one of the uglier stretches I remember experiencing in a Reds uniform. We need to be much, much better.”
It’s hard to be much, much worse.

He basically said the same thing as that Mariners guy but since he's family, he won't get canned.

Instead of canning him, they should require him to engage Reds fans and make amends. They could draw fans names for Castellini pies in the face days at GAB, hold Castellinis vs. fans pregame paintball on the field, and every homestand have a Castellini dunk booth day in the tailgating areas.

They should have a raffle and the winner gets to man a Hot Dog Gun at the center of the diamond and Phil will dress up in an old wool Reds uniform and have to run around the bases while the fan shoots fully dressed coneys at him. It should be done on a Sunday afternoon when it's really humid. Phil will have 40 seconds to get around the bases, if he doesn't he has to go again and do it in 50 seconds and so on.

When the schedule came out I thought it was a rough start for the Reds. Opening day was on the road, they had two home games and then went to the west coast where games start after most people are in bed. Add into it that they were playing two top tier clubs and you had a recipe for disaster.
Phil's comments were stupid by themselves, but when you add in a tough opening stretch with the likelihood of them coming home with a poor record, it was even more idiotic.
FWIW, I don't think the record is much better if they had Castellanos, Suarez, and Winker.

That's good natured fun and all, but what he said, and he was telling the truth keep in mind, was not funny.
Ownership is subtracting from the fan experience, for profit. That was the quiet part out loud.
They are milking not just the franchise, but also the fan experience.
And only a monopoly like MLB is, would allow for that sort of thing to occur.
In short, they suck.

We don't deserve Hunter Greene. Certainly the Castellini family doesn't.

Incredible leadership and he must know they're facing either a.) not a lot of Reds fans or b.) a lot of Cards fans or both this weekend.
