Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
BP 4
Heisey 9
Votto 3
Gomes 7
Francisco 5
Razor 2
Stubbs 8
Janish 6
Harang 1
Interesting that JF gets the start at 3rd. Cairo's leg must still be bothering him. Not an ideal lineup vs Jimenez, but I will say it's good to see Janish still getting some starts w/ O-Cab back!
We're off to the game! Go Reds!

Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Gonna say that this is the "Use the piching mismatch as an opportunity to rest some of our more vulnerable starters" lineup.

And I bet you we still pull off the W

Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
I love Dusty sitting Rolen against Ubaldo. Great spot to get him some rest. And why not let Francisco as a lefty take some of his might cuts against Jiminez?
Nice move from Baker.

Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Defensively, Janish makes sense with Francisco at third base. A bit more range at SS without Rolen in the lineup.
-
Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Wow. Had no idea it was an afternoon game. Thought it was 9 o'clock.

With what we have today, I'd bat JF 4th, and Gomes 5th.

And 2 in a row for OCab since coming back so taking a seat makes some sense.

JF's swing might be a bit long for Jimenez, but we shall see.
FYI, for those having heart palpitations regarding Gomes hitting 4th, let alone being in the lineup today, he is 2-6 with 2 big flies versus Ubaldo in his career.

Gomes in the lineup?
Who could complain about that?
The alternatives were Franciso, Alonso and Cairo.
Gomes is a GG winner compared to them.

Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
I can live with this lineup today.
The only change I'd make is Hannigan catching Harang instead of Hernandez. Call me crazy but it seems Harang pitches better with Hannigan behind the plate.

Seems like most of these guys do better with Hanigan,

Definitely wouldn't shock me in the least.

At the ballpark. Bruce shagging flies and looks to be moving well. I asked him if he planned on playing this series and he said, "I'm not sure, but we will see. Soon I hope". Also he did NOT take bp w/ the team. 4th row RF bleachers:)

That was without Helton & Tulowitzki though, so this is a bit of a different team than when we last saw
Their lineup:
2B Young
CF Fowler
LF Gonzalez
SS Tulowitzki
1B Helton
3B Mora
RF Smith
C Olivo
P Jimenez

I know this is probally a dumb question but is there anyway to listen to the game other than with the MLB package?

According to this, 950 AM is the Reds on Radio Indianapolis affiliate. Meaning, I believe, you should hear the 700 broadcast there.

I might have to leave the TV unmuted for this one

Marty and Jim Kelch on the radio side. I like Kelch I think he does a great job.

Yep. Kelch is a pleasure to listen to. He also has a TON of information on the minor league guys (and guys recently promoted) which is also nice to hear. Solid PBP too.

Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Phillips attempts a bunt and the catcher throws him out.
-
Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Heisey strikes out swinging. 2 outs on 4 pitches.
-
Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Why attempt a bunt in this park?

Phillips shouldn't bunt for base hits. He doesn't get out of the box quickly enough to beat out a lot of bunts.
Votto fans.
-
Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Votto strikes out swinging. 10 pitch inning. 0-0 mid 1st.
-
Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Welsh's PBP- not great, but not horrid.

Why do it at GABP for that matter? Unless its Wood or Leake or maybe Stubbs, Cabrera or Janish, no reason to bunt for a hit IMO.

Well, if he's gonna do it, the first ab of a series is when to try it. That way they're at least thinking about it the rest of the series.

Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Nice running catch by Gomes. He runs into the wall in foul territory.
-
Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
I worry more for that wall than I do Gomes

Considering our lack of OF depth...I'd prefer a bit of caution right now.

No just those 5. Don't really want to see anyone else bunting for a hit. I really don't like Stubbs doing it, but if he could it would help him get more balls through the IF.
-
Re: Reds @ Colorado, Game #1 Labor Day 9/6/10
Gomes looks fine which is good because Cairo would be the backup OF.
