Your endless quest to be miserable is exhausting. Ervin is valuable, and him hitting well is great. It's very likely that he's going to be back with the Reds and need to contribute at some point this season

Games of Thursday, May 30
MiPOD Phillip Ervin must be doing everything in his power to get back to the bigs. Since being sent down, he has hit in every game and has hit two home runs in each of the last two games. Phillip will turn 27 this year, but still has a chance of playing a meaningful role for the Reds in the future. Yesterday, Ervin went 3-5 with a double with the aforementioned 2 home runs (5), 3 runs scored, and he had 4 RBI.
The Louisville Bats won 11-6.
Brian O’Grady went 3-5 with a double, 2 runs scored, and he had 2 RBI.
Aristides Aquino went 3-5 with a run and an RBI.
The Chattanooga Lookouts lost 5-0.
Alfredo Rodriguez went 1-4.
Taylor Trammell went 1-4.
Packy Naughton allowed 3 earned in 5 innings with a walk and 3 strikeouts. He is now 2 for 2 in decent starts at AA.
Nick Howard allowed a run in 2.0 innings with a strikeout. Great to see him control his stuff for two innings and pitch adequately.
The Daytona Tortugas lost 2-1.
Hendrik Clementina went 1-4 with a solo home run (5).
Andy Sugilio went 3-4 with a double and a steal.
Ryan Lillie allowed 2 earned in 6 and two thirds innings with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Aneurys Zabala threw a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts.
The Dayton Dragons lost 9-4.
Michael Siani went 1-3 and he was hit by a pitch.
Jay Schuyler went 1-4 with a 2-run home run (2).
Jhon De Jesus allowed 2 earned in 4 and two thirds innings with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Is it me or does Siani get hit by a lot of pitches?

Is there a place like previous years where the totals (mipod and honorable mentions) are listed?
Games of Friday, May 31
Keury Mella, Louisville: 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, 0 runs. Mella came over in the deal for Mike Leake, which feels like a long time ago, and came along with Adam Duvall, who's entire rise and fall we witnessed. Along the way Mella has climbed the system but never dominated like he showed glimpses of doing in lower levels of the Giants system. Hard to say what we left with the now 25-year-old Dominican righty, but he's capable of outings like this that keep you intrigued.
Honorable mention: Tony Santillan, Chattanooga: 6 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 2 runs, 1 earned run. After a poor outing gave him an ERA over 4.00 in his first start in May, Santillan has pitched 29.1 innings in his last 5 starts with a 2.45 ERA with 8 walks to 27 strikeouts.
In other action, as we inch closer to annual event of throwing a bunch of new faces into the mix:
Phillip Ervin, Louisville: 2-3. Really heating up now.
Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 2-5, 2B, RBI
Blake Trahan, Louisville: 3-4, 2B, RBI
Sherman Johnson, Louisville: 1-2, 2 BB
Jesus Reyes, Louisville: 2 innings, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 2 strikeouts.
TJ Friedl, Chattanooga: 2-5, 2 doubles, RBI. After a brutal April the speedy outfielder has been more like himself in May.
Taylor Trammell, Chattanooga: 1-4, 2B, RBI
Jose Siri, Chattanooga: 2-5, stolen base
Tyler Stephenson, Chattanooga: 3-4, BB, RBI
Calten Daal, Chattanooga: 2-4, BB, RBI, stolen base. Delivered the game winning hit in extra innings.
Alejo Lopez, Daytona: 2-4
Jonathan India, Daytona: 1-4
Jared Solomon, Daytona: 5 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, 1 run. Two good starts in a row in Daytona by the 21-year-old who was an 11th round pick in 2017.
Clate Schmidt, Daytona: 2 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 0 runs
Brian Rey, Dayton: 3-4, stolen base
Pabel Manzanero, Dayton: 3-4, 2B
Jay Schuyler, Dayton: 2-3, BB, 2 RBI
Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 1-3, BB
James Marinan, Dayton: 4 innings, 6 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 2 runs, 1 earned run
Alexis Diaz, Dayton: 3 innings, 0 hits, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs
Games of Saturday, June 1
Your MILPOD
Vladimir Gutierrez, Bat: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K. Best start of the year for the 23 year old who, it was said, impressed the big league staff early in spring training. It's been a disaster so far, but there's plenty of time left in 2019 for Vlad to get straight.
Hon Men
Nick Longhi, Bat: 2-4, 2 HR (9), 3 RBI, OF assist at home from LF. Of the West Springfield Longhis. Seems like if it's Sunday, Longhi is on the podium. Second time he's garlanded on this day following a two-homer game. Hitting .311, .465 vs. lefties. As noted before, he's still only 23, so pay attention.
In other action, there's more action than ever with the DSL taking sail...
Scott Schebler, Bat: 3-5, CS
Rob Refsnyder, Bat: 2-4, BB. .372 over his last 10.
Blake Trahan, Bat: 2-4, SB (2)
TJ Friedl, Lookout: 1-3, 2 BB, OF assist at home from CF. Coming on -- .333 over last 10.
Gavin Lavalley, Lookout: 1-2, 2 BB. 9 BB in last 10 games (.472 OBP)
Calten Daal, Lookout: 2-4, 2B, RBI. May have been out for a long time, but he still gets his hits (.295 AVG). Unfortunately, the errors too. 2 in this game, and it cost the team in the 9th.
Wyatt Strahan, Lookout, 2 IP, H, BB, 3 K. Would-be sheriff is back.
Jose Garcia, Tortuga: 1-4, HBP, 2B (11), SB (3). Part of 3 DPs on D.
Stuart Fairchild, Tortuga: 2-4, 2B (11)
Mark Kolozsvary, Tortuga: 2-4, 2B
Austin Orewiler, Tortuga: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K. 26 year old looks like an organizational warrior.
Andy Cox, Tortuga: IP, BB, 3 K, save (3). Reborn Tennessean is unscored on in 8 innings at Daytona with 16 Ks. How is this the same guy whose WHIP was over 2 in Dayton? Baseball players, like people, can be strange.
Mike Siani, Dragon: HR (4). Occasional flashes of power are a nice development for a kid in a challenging assignment (struggling squad, tough league for someone who was in high school a year ago).
Lyon Richardson, Dragon: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K. Still looking for that first pro win, pitched plenty well enough to get it. He hasn't been striking out many hitters, but he's had enough good starts to suggest there's something there by way of pitchability, competitiveness... something.
Adrian Rodriguez, Dragon: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.
Jose Acosta, DSL Red: 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, SB. Hit 2nd, played 3rd. Back for 2nd season, switch hitting infielder has shown speed and on-base skills, but struggled overall at the plate in 2018.
Thomas Lora, DSL Red: 2-5, 2 RBI. SS hit leadoff in first pro game.
Darlin Guzman, DSL Red: 2-4, BB. Hit 3rd, played both OF corners. Lefty swinger had a nice age 17 season in the DSL last year. Lots of EBHs, but also struck out lots.
Daniel Vellojin, DSL Red: 2-4, 2B, BB 2 RBI, CS. Catcher, switch hitter, 2nd season in DSL. Born in Colombia but was living in NYC when drafted.
Illvin Fernandez, DSL Red: 2-4. Yep, Illvin. 6'1" SS out of the DR makes his debut hitting 8th.
Junior Tamares, DSL Red: 2-3, SB. LH hitter played CF and hit 9th in first pro game.
Games of Sunday, June 2
MiLPoD: Aristides Aquino, Louisville . . . 2-3, 2 home runs (8), walk, 3 RBI. The Punisher nudged his OPS over 1.000 in 113 at-bats.
Honorable Mention: Mac Sceroler, Daytona . . . 5 IP, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 7 K. Only the second time the 24-year-old righty has gone 5 innings this year, and his season high in strikeouts. A fifth-rounder in 2017.
Also notable on the day before the cavalry gets drafted . . .
Dayton
Miguel Hernandez: HR (1), 2 RBI. Shortstop hit .301 last year in Greeneville.
Morgan Lofstrom: 3-4, double, 2 RBI. Canadian catcher 12 for his last 24.
Miles Gordon: 1-3, walk, SB (1). Back in action after a month-long absence. Started the season in Daytona.
Connor Curlis: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 3 K, W (2-1). Ohio State lefty from Findlay.
Eduardo Salazar: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB.
Connor Bennett: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Sv (5).
Chattanooga
Mitch Nay: 2-5, HR (5), 3 RBI. Homer tied game with 2 on, 2 out, bottom of the 9th.
Brantley Bell: 2-5, double, RBI. Walkoff single in 10th.
TJ Friedl: 1-3, double, walk.
Taylor Trammell: 2-5, 2 runs.
Chris Okey: 2-3, walk.
Ibandel Isabel: 1-3, 2 walks, RBI.
Scott Moss: 4.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 8 K. Just for its weirdness.
Aaron Fossas: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.
Joel Kuhnel: 1 IP, zeros, W.
Louisville
Scott Schebler: 2-4, HR. First longball for Schebs in 24 Bats games. Has perked up the last couple days.
Phillip Ervin: 2-4, double, HR (6). Now 5 homers in 5 games.
Jose Lopez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0-0, 2 K. First relief appearance in disappointing season. Cleared waivers.
Daytona
Alejo Lopez: 2-4, double.
Ernesto Liberatore: 1-2, double, sac fly. Sixth year in system for Venezuelan catcher.
Games of Monday, June 3
It was a pretty good day on the farm in Edd Roush's eyes. The Reds took the top guy on my board with the first pick, and then took a high upside guy with their second pick. On top of that, the two guys I seem to be higher on than the rest of the board had good days (once again).
MiPOD Tejay Antone threw a one hitter over 8 shutout innings with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. So I get that he is already 25 years old, but look at his last four years in the minors. He hasn't had an xFIP over 3.57 in any of them and that was last year when he was returning from injury. I will not be surprised if he makes some waves in Cincinnati next year and should be firmly in the mix for a spot in the rotation out of Spring Training if he keeps this up. Avoiding walks is huge, and the three walks tonight are the most since his first start of the season. This is Antone's fourth start of the season allowing three or less hits while throwing at least five innings.
The Louisville Bats lost 7-6 in 10 innings.
Christian Colon went 1-4 with a solo home run (4).
Brian O’Grady went 1-4 with a walk, steal (10), and 2 runs scored.
Rob Refsnyder went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
Phillip Ervin went 2-5 with a run and an RBI.
Scott Schebler went 1-4 with a run scored.
The Chattanooga Lookouts won 3-1.
Alfredo Rodriguez went 2-4 with a run scored. Up to .295 in 201 PA.
TJ Friedl went 2-4 with a steal and a run scored.
Taylor Trammell went 1-4 with a steal (13) and a run scored.
Mitch Nay went 2-4 with 3 RBI.
The Daytona Tortugas lost 11-5.
Alejo Lopez went 1-4 with a walk, steal, and he scored a run.
Jonathan India went 1-4 with a walk and a run scored.
Stuart Fairchild went 1-5 with a run and an RBI.
The Dayton Dragons had the night off.
Games of Tuesday, June 4
Packy Naughton, Chattanooga: 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts, 0 runs. Everyone's favorite Boston Brahmin was challenged with a promotion to Double A and so far he's succeeding. Naughton's got a 2.81 ERA in his 3 starts for the Lookouts and this was his best yet. The Reds might just have something with this young left-hander.
Honorable mention: Brian O'Grady, Louisville: 2-3, HR, BB, 3 RBI. That's 15 HRs now for the Rutgers product, just two behind the International League leader Adam Duvall. What else is there to say? Gotta let the BOG eat, and the BOG likes AAA pitching.
Honorable mention: Stuart Fairchild, Daytona: 3-4, HR, RBI. After 24 games played, Fairchild had a .554 OPS as of mid-May. The prediction by prospect ranking outlets that he'd likely be in AA by mid-year seemed on life support. But all Fairchild has done since May 15th is hit, in his last 15 games he is slashing .364/.446/.673 with 3 HRs, 6 doubles, a triple, 10 singles, and 8 walks to 11 strikeouts. Now armed with an OPS of .771, Chattanooga seems as though it can be very much within reach.
In other action, as the farm willed themselves to a win at every level and perhaps start to fear for their playing time with the ongoing draft
Christian Colon, Louisville: 1-3, 2 RBI
Sean Markey, Louisville: 6 innings, 4 hits, 3 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 runs. The line doesn't really matter, Markey is a filler arm who kept the Bats in the game as opposed to many of their starters this season who have been lit up
Alfredo Rodriguez, Chattanooga: 2-3, 2 walks. It's June and Alf is hitting over .300, he's still got no power but I think we are all pleasantly surprised by the former.
TJ Friedl, Chattanooga: 2-5, 3B
Mitch Nay, Chattanooga: 2-4, 2B, RBI
Jose Garcia, Daytona: 3-4, 2 doubles. Garcia had cooled off a bit after a hot start but the 21-year-old Cuban is still holding his own in the FSL.
Alejo Lopez, Daytona: 1-3, BB, RBI
Andy Sugilio, Daytona: 1-3, RBI
Ryan Lillie, Daytona: 6 innings, 2 hits, 2 walk, 7 strikeouts, 0 runs. With Packy in Tennessee, Lillie takes over as the Tortugas best starter statistically. The recently-turned-23-year-old formerly of the Marlins system has a solid 3.07 ERA after 12 starts.
Julio Pinto, Daytona: 3 innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 1 run. Picked up an old fashioned save.
Mike Siani, Dayton: 2-4, BB, 2 RBI, stolen base. Perhaps a little extra motivation seeing his little brother drafted with reports on how much better said brother is than Mike.
Jay Schuyler, Dayton: 2-5
Bren Spillane, Dayton: 1-4, 2B, BB. Back in Dayton after about a month in an undisclosed location, the big man is still trying to make better contact.
Brian Rey, Dayton: 2-4, 2 doubles
Randy Ventura, Dayton: 1-2, 2 walks, 2 stolen bases. Probably the type of player most at risk of losing playing time to the new crop.
Ricky Salinas, Dayton: 6 innings, 5 hits, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 1 run, 0 earned runs. For those keeping score, all 4 starters in the stateside system went 6 innings and all below AAA had 0 earned runs. Pretty impressive day!
Thomas Lora, DSL Reds: 2-5, 2 stolen bases
Luis Cabrera, DSL Reds: 1-4, BB, 3 RBI, stolen base
Jorge Sencion, DSL Reds: 2-5, 2 stolen bases
Deybert Lozano, DSL Reds: 1-4, 3B, BB
Ilvin Fernandez, DSL Reds: 2-3, 2 walks
Junior Tamares, DSL Reds: 1-3, 2 walks, stolen base
Yoel Diaz, DSL Reds: 3 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs
Most fascinating occurrence on the farm yesterday was that Nick Howard pitched, though not well, not well at all. Got to admire that he keeps coming back for more.
Games of Wednesday, June 5
MiLPoD: Wennington Romero, Daytona . . . 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K. A modest line for a MiLPod, but it was a day of modest performance. The crafty lefthander gets the nod because it was his first action of 2019, and because, after two subpar seasons, he’s trying to reprise the excellence of his rookie-ball years, and because he’s still only 21, and because he’s always been a favorite of mine.
Also notable on a day when the estimable DSL Reds suffered their first defeat of the season, mustering but one hit (while scoring three runs) . . .
Daytona
Dauri Moreta: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K.
Ryan Nutof: 1 IP, 0-0-0, 2 K, Sv (8). Former Wolverine rocking a 1.04 ERA since his lousy first 2 games of the season.
Andy Sugilio: 1-3, triple, run.
Jose Israel Garcia: 1-3, double, walk, run.
Dayton
Jared Solomon: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K. First W of the year for the former Xavier recruit.
Matt Pidich: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K.
Connor Bennett: 1 IP, 0-0-0, 1 K, Sv (6).
Miguel Hernandez: 2-4, double, R, RBI.
Miles Gordon: double, 2 RBI.
Louisville
Scott Schebler: 1-1, HR (2), 2 walks. Led off the Bats’ first with a monster shot. That's 8 hits and 2 homers in last 5 games.
Sherman Johnson: 2-3.
Chattanooga
Mitch Nay: 2-5, 2 doubles. Fourth straight 2-hit game.
Gavin LaValley: 2-4, double, walk, RBI.
TJ Friedl: Triple, RBI, 2 runs.
Taylor Trammell: 1-4, sac fly, 2 RBI.
Andy Cox: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Double-A debut for former Volunteer.
DSL
Carlos Santos: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K.
Willy Mendez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K.
Thomas Lora: 2 runs, 2 SB (4). Infielder, 17, bats leadoff.
Anybody know Cox's arsenal? Strange to see such a turnaround, and the Reds seem to be buying it.Quote:
Andy Cox: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Double-A debut for former Volunteer.
I missed his breakout. Like Ryan Nutof, he's been dominant since a couple wretched outings early. Over the past month, he's had 11 straight scoreless appearances over 3 levels. Prior to that, he'd given up just 2 runs in 8.1 innings. In exactly 9 innings between Daytona and now Chattanooga, he has 18 K.
But no, I know nothing about his stuff.
