I'm sort of surprised to see Votto in there today...he's 0-for-9 with seven strikeouts in his career vs Sabathia.

Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Put on a good show, boys! 15% of the country is watching!
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
I enjoy listening to Jim Kelch
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
This is the first time Sabathia has started on 3 days rest.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Maybe the Votto/Bruce show will continue
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Full counts all day won't work

He got squeezed on that 0-2 pitch to Cameron.

Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Leadoff hit for Hairston.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
3 straight hits and the Reds lead 1-0 on a Votto RBI single.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Jerry "can't wait to see him leave, he's about to revert to form, he's Dusty's guy, we can do better" Hairston gets a single off Sabathia to increase his .390 OBP and .332 average. Keppinger "it's not the injury, he's reverting to form, let's get rid of him" also singles.
And then Joey Votto, who looks like a tremendous young hitter, the kind the Reds have been lacking, singles home the run.
No homers. No balls hit to the moon. No walks. Just hits and a run.

Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Votto is going to have a GREAT career....and I hope its here for a long time
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread

I'm sorry, but that single doesn't make up for how putrid he's been since June.
Nice to see Votto get off the hook against Sabathia with a nice line drive single.

Agree.
The Reds would be making a huge error if they let Hairston walk. What a year this guy is having and, by all accounts, it's simply a matter of being more selective at the plate. Whether he splits a position, platoons, or is the first guy off the bench, he has been terrific and should be kept.
He is consistent like Hatteberg, but adds much more since he can play many positions.
It would be a huge loss to let him go, regardless of his baseball card, and even with his tendency to get injured.

Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Fielder bounces out on the second pitch of the second inning.

I agree that Kepp hasn't done well lately and generally has been less than stellar against righties. I would be happy to retain him, but only as a backup. Still, I think Kepp was set back by his injury and hasn't been the same.
I do appreciate Kepp's play with the Reds overall, with all the shortsop injuries he has been very helpful to them.

Rather dispersed crowd...

Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Another 1-2-3 inning for Cueto.

I have no problem with keeping him as a backup.
Hart grounds out on the first pitch. Johnny's stuff still isn't as sharp since coming back.

Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
1-0 Reds after two innings.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Jolbert Cabrera allows a lead off single to begin the third inning. Sheesh. Jolbert Cabrera is not an outfielder.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Kendall flies out to Hairston for the first out.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Jeff Keppinger is just a liability in the field everywhere isn't he? Sabathia hits what should have been a doubleplay but somehow Keppinger can't get to the ball and it goes into center field. First and third with one out for Cameron. The REds defense have turned two outs into two singles this inning.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Cameron pops out. Two outs.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Cueto gets Counsell to fly out and end the threat. 1-0 Reds after 2 1/2.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Sabathia has retired nine straight. 1-0 Reds after three innings. Braun/Fielder/Hardy due up in the 4th inning.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Cueto doesn't have his put away slider today.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Braun singles on a 2-2 fastball. I hate that pitch selection there. Braun eats fastballs for breakfast. I figure this will be the inning they get to Cueto, he just doesn't have his put away stuff.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
That gun has to be juiced it said Cueto hit 101.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
RBI double by Fielder. I still can't get past that pitch selection to Braun. He had an 0-2 count and threw nothing but fastballs. Should have buried some breaking stuff and forced him to chase. I wonder who is calling pitches?
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Again, 0-2 count on Hart and they go back to the fastball.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Hart bloop singles, Hairston throws Fielder out at the plate by a mile.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Weeks triples on a 0-2 count. 2-1 Brewers. I'll never understand why the Reds continue sending Cueto out there post injury when his stuff is clearly not the same.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
This 0-2 stuff has happened with Cueto before. Pitch calling sometimes makes no sense on this club.
-
Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Cueto has actually been tough on 0-2 counts this year (.381 OPS) but that's because of his filthy slider. Since coming back from his injury his slider has flatted out a bit. He'll be fine with rest.
Sabathia just got a very generous strike call at Cabrera's ankles. I wish Cueto was getting that strikezone today.

Re: September 20th Reds-Brewers game thread
Is there a slap myself smiley? I just allowed myself to get into a political debate with my parents....and we have different views but (i hope) similar values....I should have been watching baseball :bang:
