RIP….
Phantom IL? I imagine he only had 40ish innings left in him this year, but kind of weird to do it now and not just shut him down in September.
Handle with care, if the trouble persists perhaps getting a couple of teeth removed will help
Not going into full Chicken Little mode yet, but the Reds have such a history of reporting injuries as minor that later prove to be not so minor that…. Chicken Little is loosening up and stretching…
Isn’t there a saying that pitchers don’t tell you they’re hurting because pitchers are always hurting?
Isn't this what got Mahle on the ?IL? a few weeks ago?
Before everyone goes bonkers, isn’t this the same injury that Tyler Mahle had just a few weeks ago and missed only 2-3 starts?
EDIT: Sorry, just saw the same comment posted
And if a guy is feeling sore they often adjust their mechanics to to avoid pain. But that adjustment can lead to something bad (more pain, bad habits, big injury) so if you aren’t trying to win anything of worth (outside of pride) move with caution and tap the brakes
He had a pretty big range of FB velocities last time out, but his average velo wasn't abnormal.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's something he's been working through for a while and they just decided now was the time to shut him down.
This is the difference between now and the pre mid 2000s? They would not put you in the DL. They would just have you throw less all out. Everything hard. Limit the stress. Pitchers were better at just changing speeds and not going max out.
You could still pitch through a shoulder strain or just skip 1 start.
Now it’s anything that is a discomfort to you. Go to the IL.
