No player guarantees a playoff appearance, so I'd urge people not to think Cliff Lee does--as many seem to be assuming.

If they really want Cisco more, think this could get it done?
For those not wanting to deal, im surprised Juan Guzman hasn't been mentioned.
An innings eater who ultimately left for Tampa in the offseason, we ultimately gave up BJ Ryan, who became a pretty dominant closer for the Orioles, then went to Toronto with an insane FA deal and blew his arm out.
Wood is ready now. I am not sure when Chapman will be ready. I don't feel comfortable projecting Chapman into the 2011 rotation. I know Wood can be.
If it's me, Wood is going nowhere.
Wood really kind of profiles as a back end guy.
So did Cliff Lee once upon a time. You never know quite where ceilings are with lefties.
I think Wood can settle in as a "3" someday, if that's how you want to classify him.
Very good observation. Chapman is not looking like he'll be ready any time soon.
Bailey is still a huge question mark. We're likely to lose Harang and/or Arroyo after this season.
That leaves us with Cueto, Volquez, and Leake as projectable productive major league arms. Wood is likely needed.
SP could easily go from a strong suit to a question mark in short order.
That said, I really would like to see them acquire Lee.
MLBTR has a link up saying that the Mariners are demanding a major league ready stud catcher. You know what I draw the line at Devin Mesoraco. He stays.
I will not give him up for a rental. Haren, Greinke, even Oswalt yeah I think about it. But not for a rental. Catchers putting up a .950 OPS stay.
Why?
He's a second round draft pick. Lefty who can hit 90. Has a 8.4 K/9 rate and .7 HR/9 rate in the minors. His only issue has been control, and he seems to have started to get a handle on it. If he threw mid to low 80's, or didn't have an out pitch, that would be different.
Who knows what he will turn out to be, but I think his ceiling would be a solid #2, actually.
