These new pop up ads are absolutely awful.

The new popups are something Google automatically implemented. As a reminder to all, a yearly subscription helps us keep the site running and eliminates all ads for the duration of your subscription. If anyone who is a subscriber is inadvertently seeing any ads, such as the new ones, please let me know, as that is not intentional and something I need to look into.

I haven't seen these on any other site I frequent. There's one that doesn't even have a closeout button. You gotta hit the back page arrow and re-load. I don't get why this site is inundated with these ads and others aren't.

Any site you visit that uses Google's advertising program could have these types of ads. They are in no way unique to here.

I'd like to monitor the impact of the new ad type over a reasonable length of time to determine its impact on revenue. I believe they only showed for 50% of the site's users for approximately the past month until yesterday. As of yesterday, they should've been rolled out to all non-subscribers, so I'd like to determine over time if they're worth the aggravation. We're always shooting for a balance between site usability and our ability to keep it up and running. Like most places, our revenue has significantly been impacted the past 14 months due to COVID. We're not in danger of not being able to pay the bills, but we've certainly seen a major drop in revenue throughout the pandemic.

I'm always curious what the bills are. How much does it cost to keep this running?

More than most would probably think which is primarily monthly hosting costs. There's also some miscellaneous annual fees such as domain renewal, tax preparation software and a couple others. We're OK in terms of paying our bills, but we've certainly been impacted by COVID.
Re: On the declining quality of the ORG
I actually really like the new full-screen pop up ads. They provide a nice unexpected break from the basic function of the site. Monotony is not your friend over a 6 month baseball season.
Re: On the declining quality of the ORG
Don't forget the big fat paychecks all of the mods cash every week.

Nobody is getting rich off the ad revenue pre or post COVID, if that's what you're wondering. Otherwise, I don't really see the point in listing out our exact expense amounts.

No problem. Just say that
