Hanigan batting second.
I guess Pete knows he's not coming back as well....;)

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
A whole off season without lineup complaints, what can I do now?
Fall on the sword gracefully Reds and see ya next spring.

5 months!
It'll be here before we know it.

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
Hanigan has a career .381 OBP in the minors.
At least Mac looks up the stats.

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
At least this lineup will cut down on Kepp hitting into DPs.

I know, he's ruining his Strat Card.

What a sad, sad day. The last Reds game until March 31st. Man, where did the season go?
This is the worst day of the year.

I agree with you. I always feel a certain sort of sadness on the last day of the regular season. It's like saying good bye, for a few months, to a good friend.

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
This is a rather depressing - almost empty - day. Almost as bad are those off days between playoff games and the playoffs and the world series - those days when you finally realize the season is truly winding down, and baseball won't be found at night for a while.
But, hey - wait until next year.

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
This offseason is going to be long for me because I'm pretty pumped about next year already. Jay Bruce will hopefully arrive, as will Johnny Cueto. We'll see (hopefully) full seasons from Josh Hamilton, Joey Votto, and Homer Bailey. Dunn should be fully healthy. The bullpen could be improved if they go with some of the younger guys. The rotation could be improved if Homer continues to make progress. I'm pretty excited about next season. Hopefully Wayne and company give us reason to be excited this offseason.

I would really like to see the likes of Coutlangus, Bray, Salmon, McBeth and Burton get some serious looks, rather than bring in more veteran help like Stanton, Stone or Cormier.
I know those five had some rough spots - but all five seemed to have showings of brilliance as well. I would like to think that, with some experience under their belts, that combination could become a good bullpen.
EDIT: Wait...Jay is in the clubhouse/dugout of the big club for the last couple of days? I missed that.
Cool.

How can he put out a lineup like this? We're contending...
Actually, I suppose the best last-day lineup in recent memory was probably in '99, for obvious reasons.

All too true. :(

I would love it if this was the last time I had to listen to George Grande as a Reds announcer.
He cheered the Soriano homer like it was a Reds' game winner.

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
Now, he's clearly rattled.

In other news the Marlins have a quick 4-0 lead in the first on the Mets!

The greatest collapse ever.

What a start for the Mets. Glavine has already given up 4 hits and 2 walks in the 1st.
-
Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
The play where three runs scored was a total meltdown by the Mets, a run scoring double turned into 3 runs.
Wow, now Glavine plunks Willis with the bases loaded!

I'm glad for you. I'll only be pumped if we don't see a bunch of silly deals that strip us of our offense (see last 7 games) and do nothing but change names in the horrendous bullpen.
If they pick up Dunn's option and do the right thing and get rid themselves of the dead weight in both the outfield and in the bullpen, and hire the right manager, then I'll get pumped.
Sorry, but I'm a disgusting, negative, and realistic old fart. And I'll be optimistic as they come on March 30th, just like you.

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
Glavine only gets one out in the 1st and is out of the game.

I bet the Cubs fans still hanging around don't even realize that "their team" has clinched a the central.

Re: 9/30/2007 Reds vs Cubs Last Game
Bailey does it again.....
Another fastball to Soriano, and 2 runs score.
Why do they continue to do it?

At least we're not the Mets.

In Homer's case, it's youth. For the others, it's just ignorance.
Learning is the difference between a successful MLB pitcher and a scrub.

Can we stop making excuses for Bailey now? I just don't think he's ready. Although I will say that I've been much more impressed with his curve this time up than last. It looks like it can become a quality "out pitch".

He's still a work in progress...but looking at his pitches, he's getting better.

I don't even care if they win, just score a RUN
