Ok, but it’s not 2 games back of a single team. The Giants, Marlins, Mets and Brewers are all ahead for the last WC.
To gain two games on that spot, Reds must outplay (in W-L) all four teams by a sufficient margin, including maybe winning tiebreakers.
But good news, as of today Reds would get the 8th pick in the 2021 draft.

The Reds sniffing the playoffs is the best possible argument for those opposed to playoff expansion.
The reds intentionally try to be uncompetitive
You can’t be this incompetent for so long without doing it on purpose.
Even the worst teams luck into success every now and again.
But not the reds. They’re the biggest loser baseball franchise of the last 30 years.
The Reds current playoff chances:
Fangraphs: 27.9%
Baseball Prospectus: 27.5%,
Baseball-Reference: 13.8%.
Don't get me wrong - I'd bet a lot of money on the Reds not making the playoffs if someone had a gun to my head and was forcing me to place a bet of a lot of money on making or not making the playoffs.
But the fact is - they are in the race. I just have no faith that they can win enough games to overcome things, especially with their remaining schedule.
