Nah, they've got the Steelers and Penguins to soften the blow every year.

You raise a good point.
Some of those fans may double as Steeler fans. Sympathy revoked.
Re: Reds at Padres 9-24-10
A few weeks ago, I figured this team was a lock for 90 wins. Not so much anymore.
Forget homefield in the 1st round. But, I guess at least they celebrate the division at home next week.

Bud Selig wants to outsource franchises like this to South America and Asia. Incidentally, he wouldn't mind sending the Reds to Puerto Rico, if they could draw more than 15,000 people a game. We had better sell out these playoff games.

The Reds are flawed and probably the worst team to make the playoffs.
I'm over that. I'm just thrilled with the year and hoping for a miracle..

I'm hoping this is sarcasm.

True, but expectations change as the season progresses.
I'd by lying if I said I wouldn't be disappointed if this is simply a one and done, like the the Bengals (the last two times) and CBJ a couple years ago.
It would be nice if Ohio gets more than a sniff of postseason as usual.

I get what you are saying. But where are the people during down years saying "Its ok if we finish 72-90, my expectations have changed'. Again, I tend to agree with you...but why don't we ever hear the opposite of this remark...are we not allowed to fairly and reasonably lower expectations? (without calling for heads)
Re: Reds at Padres 9-24-10
Are the Reds palying well right now? No. But guess what, they are 0.5 games back of the second best record in the National League. There fine. This is the year before "the year" anyway. Just have fun with it.

Why would you think it is sarcasm? The MLB Network openly roots for the St. Louis Cardinals to gain 7 games in the standings every 6 days of any given week. Greg Armsinger, who anchors a prime time show every single night on the mlb channel, is a goon from the LaRussa Nostra family who owns a large piece of the modern action. When the Yankees and Red Sox play in a relatively unimportant contest, the Rockies and Giants are reduced to the supporting cast of an off broadway musical. Athletic competition is only important when it can be moulded to fit a dramatic plot in some knucklehead's brain these days. The Knuckleheads have been hired en masse to spin sports for you so that you no longer have to bother to enjoy it, right down from your Rome's Jim to your Colin's Cowherd. Now, wasn't that easy?
Sarcasm sucks. It can mask how a person truly feels about what is happening in sports these days. I am against that.

There are no guarantees in this game though. We can't count on anything next year.
Re: Reds at Padres 9-24-10
If we get swept and the Cardinals sweep the Cubs I'm going to be in panic mode.

I'm gonna freak if the Reds are playing the '27 Yankees all next week.

Maybe last year was the year before the year. This year is when the career years are happening at 2B, 3B and behind the plate and the team is getting unconscious production from bench guys like Cairo, Heisey and Nix. Even if the young guys develop, the drop off in those spots may be hard to overcome.
Re: Reds at Padres 9-24-10
I'm getting really tired of the Reds losing to good teams. I know anything can happen in the playoffs, but it's going to be a total letdown if they limp into the playoffs and then get swept in the first round.
I hope they start swinging the bats.
