Ok....gonna lose for sure now but did everyone see what I just saw? Ervin hit the cutoff perfectly from a decent distance and Scooter made a strong throw home that didn’t short hop the catcher, but on bad side Hughes is abnormally bleh tonight

Since the Reds are so bad (1-16) when Bailey pitches, might as well jettison him.
2-1 to Billy and he offered at a pitch 6 inches low and out
Awful
Ladies and Gentlemen, Billy Hamilton.

Homer Bailey has fallen into Jim Merritt territory. In the first year I kept up with baseball,1971, Jim Merritt went 1-11 for the Reds. The lone win, incidentally, was the first major league game I ever attended. Like Bailey, Merritt was trying to come back from arm injuries and was never the same after his 20 win season in 1970. The Reds finally gave up on him in 1972 and traded him to Texas for Hal King, who had his 15 minutes of fame in 1973. Merritt won a few games in Texas and then was found out to be throwing a spitter. IIRC after he was found out he never had any further success in the majors. So maybe Bailey should try throwing a spitter and see if he can change his fortunes and maybe get away with it unlike Merritt. It couldn't hurt because he is going nowhere in this comeback attempt in 2018.
