Re: Rule 5 draft on Thurs
Players taken in the minor league phase are placed on Louisville's reserve list - which runs 38 deep.
No real restrictions, they used to have to play at the AAA level but they no longer have to.
It's essentially become a mechanism for change of scenery - allows clubs to fill in holes at the lower levels they may be short on.

Re: Rule 5 draft on Thurs
I certainly don't have a problem with Payton especially if he can carry a .280+ BA or better. I don't expect a lot of power, but he's a guy who can set the table for the power guys if he pans out. From what I read he's pretty much locked in to being in LF with not much of an arm, but he may surprise.. He apparently does't bring much speed on the bases though with just 39 career stolen bases over 6 years.. That's a bit low..although he does have an ITPHR on a VERY poorly played ball to CF.. https://www.milb.com/video/paytons-i.../c-31000007737 (The anti highlight for the CFer..Heck even I might have scored on that one even after being a smoker since i was 15..)

I dig that.
Don't know anything about him other than almost all Rule V guys get sent to the cornfield. Find it hard to believe they'll can find better MLB options for a team that's trying to contend.

Thank you @Reds for this opportunity. Excited to get to work!
Re: Rule 5 draft on Thurs
I assumed they did not take Ka'ai Tom as he is 5'9 and 25 but then they go and take an OF at 5'8 and 28. Tom would have been a good potential back up at CF. That said no team selected Tom.
Re: Rule 5 draft on Thurs
This pick would make sense had we not already signed Janikowsli and Martini to the 40 man. Reds will need to open additional spots on the 40 if we add anyone. Not sure any of these three stick on the opening day roster
Re: Rule 5 draft on Thurs
Again, I wonder if they are fielding calls on Winker and keep loading up on LH OF bats just in case he's moved...

wow how exciting has a chance to be the next Mike Vail
Re: Rule 5 draft on Thurs
The Brewers announced that they have selected right-hander Phil Bickford's contract, he'll replace Justin Grimm who has been released.
He has yet to pitch above high A.
I wanted the Reds to draft him in the Rule 5 draft 9 months ago, originally the Giants 1st round pick in 2015, let's see how this pans out for MIL.
