for me, it's the #1 stat.

Whoever said "no fastballs" screwed up. What's important here is to note that this is a not a talent issue. Amir Garrett is going to be one of the cogs in our bullpen going forward. This should be used as a learning tool. You can't throw the same pitch 7 straight times to a good hitter, especially when the 7th is right down the pike. Garrett's got a high 90s FB. There's no point in not using it

That's only 5 wins below .500. More likely randomness than anything else.

Not with a 5.6 BB/9 and 1.2 HR/9 he's not.
Garrett said this season that he mostly ditched his fastball because it got hit too much, and actively chose to go with the slider more often. That he hung one, to a LH batter no less, is his fault.

It is ultimately his fault but this is something that can be coached. A hitter like Seager can continue to foul off pitches time and time again until he walks or until the pitcher grooves one, if every pitch is the same. Pitching 101 says to vary things like pitch speed and angle. Garrett violated all of that and paid the price. He's not a good pitcher if he ditches his FB
Re: Cincinnati @ Seattle 9-10-19-10:10PM
FWIW, Seager also has reverse splits, he has a high .900's OPS vs. LH pitching. Now Garrett is also very good vs. LH batters.
But continuing to throw the same pitch at the same speed is never a good idea. In baseball, doing the "expected" is usually not a good plan.

Man I hate west coast games. Went to bed we were leading....woke up and we lost.

5.38 team ERA in the 8th inning.
5.29 team ERA in extra innings.
I’m going with anything else.

But those stats are likely random to some extent, as the back end bullpen doesn't have an ERA that high.
Telling me that a team with a poor record in extra inning gives up runs in extra innings is telling me nothing I don't already know.

It tells us that the problem is run prevention in late innings. That's meaningful information in terms of figuring out how to improve the team. It also tells us it's not random or luck. It's a talent problem.
