Man, I really hate what they're doing to the minor leagues. Jeff Luhnow is outed as a disgraced cheater, but they still go along with his pet project to overhaul and destroy the minors for "efficiency" (ie: cost-cutting) reasons.
The minors are the best part of baseball. I can't believe they're destroying it. Baseball the industry is as dumb as baseball the game is great.
So i am assuming that this will be like the Cape Cod league - wooden bats?
For those keeping score at home, that's now 10 minor league franchises killed.
Man I really thought it wasn't possible to have a more out of touch commish than Roger Goodell... MLB exceeded that by many levels. #FireManfred.
It seems kind of strange that while trying to increase the game's popularity the bean-counters would destroy teams that have been part of baseball and fans' lives for decades. Pretty stupid and short-sighted in my opinion, and not a very good reflection of Rob Manfred's leadership.
This is what happens when people who hate baseball are running it.
Didn't we just buy the Greeneville Reds?
Yes..... but it's probably a lot less complicated than you think.
The Reds bought the rights to the franchise. But they didn't buy any land, a stadium - none of that. They leased the stadium from a local college. They outsourced running the franchise from a non-player personnel/coaching to Boyd Sports (they do this for a handful of teams in the Tennessee area).
I do not know how much the Reds paid for the franchise, but it was probably a very small amount of money.
They probably gave a dollar for the franchise. The Astros were the Greeneville team for about 8 years prior to the Reds coming in. Greeneville just needed a team to come in.
