I look at how Sampson's pitching and think that's the case with any team he faces.

Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
I've set the over/under of hard it balls against Sampson at 10.5 (foul balls could count)

Lol...,who the hell was making fun of Sampson? Samsonite...Dumb and Dumber.
Had to be Pirates dugout caught on mic
-
Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
I think there are nearly as many here tonight as people in the stands
shockingly --- Sampson only gives up one in the first ---

Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
Why on earth would the Pirates do a sac bunt with their 2 hitter in the first inning??????????????????????????????????? Against a rookie with a 6+ ERA??????????????????????????????
I have been driven nuts by the Reds doing this over the past three years (though I don't remember it this year) so it is nice to see others do something equally stupid.

I figured it was just to confound the idea of 10 hard hit balls off of Sampson

Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
In the world of competitve Reds baseball, two minor league playoff games tonight. Three Reds minor league teams in the playoffs. Wonder if they will draw more or less than the Reds tonight.

Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
Holy hell what an AWFUL call strike 3
And Thom sucks already... Completely exaggerating against Billy Hamilton
-
Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
I see the ump just a gave very low strike for Happ -- that bodes well -- not
-
Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
DeJesus strikes out on a pitch 5 inches low and Thom says nothing and Cowboys quips about how that'll get called more often than not and then Votto takes strike 1 at the top of the zone (k zone showed it a strike) and Thom is in utter disbelief and Cowboy talks about pitches being called high???

Bodes well for the future.

I can't think of another play by play announcer for any other team who gets as worked up about pitchers walking batters or errors or things like that as Thom does.

Frazier has hit more home runs against the Pirates than any other team... and it's not close.

I will take the Reds.....
Billings is at home and will probably draw 2-3,000. Daytona is on the road and it's the Florida State League.

I don't really know Joe Price, but I imagine he'd be a better manager than Bryan Price.

Being curious, I looked at McCutchen's walk numbers and he has 398 since 2011. i didn't realize he had that many.

Price could have had a much better career, but the Reds hurt it by making him a reliever at first, because GM Dick Wagner didn't acquire a lefty reliever for the team, Price was one of the best lefty arms the Reds developed in the '80's, but they wasted him in the pen for years. Kinda reminds you of what the Reds did with another lefty power arm.

Re: Wed 9/9/15 Pirates @ Reds- the return of Billy Ball!
Us older dudes, should remember Joe Price on those 80's teams. As a kid then we were a lot less critical, he was a Red, I was a fan. I remember him with long frizzy hair, lol.

Joe Price was a solid LHP for the Reds in the Dark Ages of the early 80's.
I wonder where he got his blue Reds cap. (Our local high school's colors are blue and white, and the name begins with C, so it would be pretty cool around here.)

Jim Day isn't invited to Billy's birthday party.

I remember something about him strengthening his arm by plunging it over and over into a barrel of rice.
