At 76 y/o, this will make LaRussa the 3rd oldest MLB manager in history - Connie Mack retired at age 87 and Jack McKeon came back and finished a season with the Marlins at the age of 80. I'll be honest with you, this move absolutely flabbergasts me. I don't get it.
I remember Casey Stengal managing the Mets and he retired at age 75. He was ancient at that age, although I have to acknowledge that in the 1960s, such people were much older at that age than someone that age is now. I recall asking a friend who was near my parent age (then nearing 70) about whether my memories of my grandmothers seeming so old (a handful of years younger than Stengal) were just the juxtaposition of my youth and their old age. But she said no, her parents generation were a lot older at those ages than folks are now. But still, in today's game, this seems the wrong direction for any club.

The hiring of Tony La Russa has ruffled feathers in the White Sox organization. A number of employees have concerns about his ability to connect with younger players and how he will adapt to the field after being away 9 years.
This was a Jerry Reinsdorf decision. Simple as that.

It's the south side of Chicago at least he's not bad bad Leroy Brown.
Re: 2020-2021 Off-Season News, Notes and Discussion
So are the White Sox now going to become the arbiters of all that is good and right in the game, or will that still be the Cardinals' job?
Re: 2020-2021 Off-Season News, Notes and Discussion
Both O'Day and Hand on the market? Interesting.

Braves turn down Darren O’Day $3.5M option. Bit of a surprise considering how well he’s pitched for Braves (1.21 ERA in 2 years there). Not as big a shock as Brad Hand going on outright waivers but not something you’d expect.

A.J. Hinch has interviewed with the Tigers. He's viewed as the clear frontrunner to be the next manager. Final word could come soon.
And then there's this: "The White Sox did us a big favor."

Get over it. Everybody cheats. Every pitcher in the league loads the ball with pine tar to increase the spin rate. It's been going on forever.

We’ve had this discussion before.
Everyone breaks the law (speeding, jaywalking, sampling grapes at the grocery store) and most of us aren’t bothered by it. There are laws (mugging, stealing cars, fraud) that only a select few break and those are disturbing and deserve scorn.
Everyone in MLB cheats a little and it has little impact on who wins and loses. Very few cheated the way the Astros and Hinch did, which drastically changed who won and lost. I will never forgive them for it.

30 teams passed on Brad Hand’s $10MM contract on waivers. I think we all have to readjust downwards our expectations both for what FAs will be offered as well as how much (including our favorite team) will be willing to spend for a while...

Castellanos did not opt out by last night’s deadline according to various tweets.
