He played last year against pitchers averaging 2 years older than him.
If he can come even remotely close to duplicating the .424 OBP he carried over 3 seasons of college ball, he could become a true leadoff hitter in 3-4 years.
Isn’t that true for a ton of recent college draftees though?

The big difference being many of them hit for .600+ SLG their final year in college and he did not and those who do are typically 1B/LF'ers (like Spilane) who breakout their junior year, he is a centerfielder.
Carrying a .340 OBP in your first year of full season baseball - at A+ - at age 21 - is still impressive enough for me to rank him here. I think if he had hit .283 in his month with the Reds like he did in 4 months with the A's A+ affiliate he'd already be off the board. He had a poor first 3 weeks of April, a good to great May/June/July and then a poor final 3 weeks of August after the trade.

QUICK NOTE RZONE: If you vote other and don't tell me who the vote is for - it's not going to count!

Should have said not added to the 40/left unprotected. When time came for a decision, he was deemed unworthy.

Maybe he was just found unfinished due to his injury and unlikely to be taken in Rule 5 and even less likely to stick for a full year by whoever took him.

That .283 BA was a result of a .361 BABIP though. His K/BB rate wasn't great and it appears he has no HR power whatsoever. He's going to have to be very good defensively and keep the OBP up above .330 to be valuable with such little power...
